Janet McNab, Managing Director of Sheraton Grand Macao Hotel, Cotai Central and The St. Regis Macao, Cotai Central received top honors at the prestigious BMW Hotelier Awards 2017 event last night, where she was named “General Manager of the Year, Greater China”.
In her role on Macao's Cotai Strip, McNab oversees the hotel operations of the 4,001-room Sheraton Grand Macao Hotel – Marriott International's largest Sheraton worldwide – as well as the 400-room St. Regis Macao. Australian-born and of Italian descent, McNab began her career with Starwood Hotels & Resorts* 28 years ago out of Brisbane. She has spent 15 of those years in Asia, working at properties throughout Thailand, China, Indonesia, and now – Macao.
Upon receiving her award at the event, McNab said: “Working with me are 2,000 dedicated people who keep me going every day. They are among the most talented men and women in the industry, and I love working with them. This recognition is very special and I take my hat off to them all.”
* Prior to the acquisition by Marriott International in September 2016.
A role model for female hoteliers in the industry, McNab also drives Marriott International's program of reinforcing the group's commitment to develop and empower future women leaders.
“It is crucial to inspire women in hospitality,” McNab said. “Throughout my career I have spent a great deal of my time mentoring other women to build their confidence in taking the next step. Now, after having received this accolade from The Hotelier Awards, I hope that women can take inspiration from seeing more and more females taking steps into senior roles.”
The Hotelier Awards is the only accolade in Greater China and Asia in which finalists are judged by other peers in the hotel industry. The annual event recognizes hoteliers who perform best in their field. These awards not only recognize talented hoteliers, but are also designed to inspire future generations to pursue a career in hospitality.
