Sheepskin

Sheepskin's latest new cottage provides another excuse to escape to the great British countryside.

A boutique retreat for 2-3 people, Sett Cottage, in the northern Peak District, has all the amenities of Hayfield on its doorstep and the attractions of the national park within easy reach. The cottage owners have worked hard to create a luxuriously comfortable, design-led interior for their traditional quarry worker's cottage and the results do not disappoint. From the eye-catching copper bath to the locally sourced soft furnishings and the innovative storage solutions that double as design features, no detail has been overlooked.

It is a cosy little cottage in an elevated position on the edge of the village of Hayfield, a gem of a place in the High Peak area of Derbyshire. At the foot of Kinder Scout (the highest point in the Peak District) and renowned for calico printing and paper manufacturing in years gone by, Hayfield is a popular Peak District village.

In April 1932 Hayfield was the location for the mass trespass onto Kinder Scout, which marked the beginning of the media campaign by The Ramblers Association to get walkers more rights of way in England and Wales. Most recently, Hayfield was the location for the second series of the BBCs critically acclaimed series, The Village (broadcast in 2014.)

Sett Cottage's owners have successfully enhanced this mid-terraced, former quarry worker's home, giving it an inspiring, contemporary interior but retaining the property's traditional charm. Many items in the house have been sourced in the village itself, which is home to a number of galleries, photographers and artists. With a cosy, welcoming living room complete with log burner, a carefully thought-out stylish kitchen, a luxurious copper bath in the master bedroom and an indulgent, rainfall shower, the cottage is a real home-from-home.

Sheepskin's General Manager says, “It's a perfect place for couples, or perhaps three adults who want to arrive, park their car, put their key in the front door and forget about their busy lives for a while. You actually don't need your car once you're in Hayfield. Everything is on your doorstep.”

There are plentiful walks, including the Pennine Way, Kinder Scout and the Reservoir, or across the River Sett to the Sett Valley Trail (a two-mile greenway route for cyclist) and the Pennine Bridleway. For those who don't want to walk too far, there are galleries and interiors shops to wander around and a lovely riverside to walk along (or just sit next to and kick back). And there are many welcoming pubs (there are five to choose from!) most serving food, plus a classy wine bar, delicatessen, fish and chip shop and two tearooms that serve breakfast too.

It's within easy reach of Manchester, Birmingham, Sheffield, Liverpool and Leeds for a long weekend break and sleeps 2-3. Prices start at £475 for a 3 night stay outside school holidays.
