Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney Celebrates “Engineer of the Year” at Hotel Industry's Premier Awards

Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney is celebrating an outstanding award at the esteemed 2018 Tourism Accommodation Australia (TAA) NSW Awards for Excellence, which took place in Sydney on 26 July 2018.

Director of Engineering Anura Yapa took home the coveted “Engineer of the Year” award for the fourth year in a row, initiating him into the prestigious Hall of Fame. 

Director of Sales and Marketing Robert Miletic said he was “delighted to see the extraordinary talent and achievements of Anura recognised and rewarded by peers at the accommodation industry’s leading awards night”.

With 36 years within the mechanical and industrial engineering sector, including 22 years in hotel engineering, Yapa is also the president of the NSW chapter of the Australian Institute for Hotel Engineering.

As an accredited assessor for the National Australia Built Environment Rating System (NABERS), Yapa has been the driving force behind multiple energy reducing initiatives as well as the newly implemented check lists for energy monitoring and rewriting the guidelines to improve hotel energy and water savings.

Yapa has further been recognised for his efforts during a major power outage, the successful completion of the Green-Building-Fund Project and the luxury refurbishment of the hotel’s club lounge and rooms, amongst other achievements.

Shangri-La Hotel, Sydney congratulates each of the nominees who reached the final of the celebrated TAA Awards, Losalini Manono for “Employee Excellence”, Anna Polyviou for “Chef of the Year”, Ivan Chu for “Food and Beverage Talent of the Year”, Nick Jowers for “Concierge of the Year” and Aditi Sood for “Rising Star”.
