Shakespeare Boards Queen Mary Launches Dramatic Arts Academy/Acting Companies

Long Beach, CA ~ The Queen Mary, in cooperation with the Globe of America, a non-profit Shakespeare Theatre Organization, is proud to announce the addition of a new attraction developing on board the elegant steamship turned Hotel and Attraction. The Globe of America is developing a classic training and plays for 3 stages - in three-stages. The Globe Academy will offer various classes in Acting Shakespeare including Voice, Movement, Fight Choreography, Clowning and Mask & Mime.

The First Stage of development begins January 15, 2005, with the Globe Academy for Dramatic Arts, dedicated to the training of theatre professionals and tomorrow's aspiring artists. The academy is bringing together experienced professionals to train actors on the basis of stage styles from Greek/Roman plays through Shakespeare, Commedia, Restoration and Contemporary styles.

The Second Stage will launch theatre for Families and Young Audiences with The Queen's Young Globe Company in the Royal Theatre in Spring 2005 under the direction of distinguished Playwright/Director James Engelhardt. The Third Stage begins in November 2005 with The Queen's Globe Shakespeare Company - a fully professional and experienced acting company presenting a 3-play subscription - to be presented in the Exhibit Hall and Boiler Room of the majestic and historic oceanliner.

A special twelve-week program designed for children will be offered on the QM by the Globe Academy starting January 22nd through April 9th. Four different class levels will be available for children in grades 1 through 12. These classes, directed by Actress Suzette Jamison, will prove instrumental in increasing confidence with fun exercises, expanding creativity and learning basic improvisation and acting techniques.
