Imagine setting sail on a traditional dhow across the Kenyan archipelago of Lamu, swimming in the Indian Ocean with dolphins and turtles, exploring hidden away villages, catching your own array of succulent fish for BBQs on the beach and sleeping under the stars. Imagine all this as your own private experience, being waited on hand and foot, in true Kizingoni Beach style.
Launched this spring and available throughout the year, the new 38 foot traditional Jahazi dhow 'Kilindini' sails through the old spice and ivory trading route gently passing villages frozen in time, untouched beaches and exotic wildlife.
Kilindini was built by hand using traditional tools by local craftsmen under a tree in a small fishing village near Kizingoni Beach. Decked out with luxury mod cons, Kilindini has its own private marine WC, showers, brass washbasin, cold boxes, CD player with i-pod connection, water tanks, fuel tanks and engine.
Guests can relax and take in the beautiful archipelago surroundings or enjoy a number of adrenaline seeking activities, by taking their private speedboat with them. Alternatively, the small dhow tender, with outboard, will enable up close bird watching and exploration of the mangrove channels in their untouched beauty. The experienced staff can teach traditional fishing techniques with hand lines, catching dinner to be prepared by the dhows personal chef.
This is one of the best ways to experience the beauty of the Kenyan coast, learn about its history and culture and get close to the natural and marine environment - all in total luxury and comfort. Available from one to three nights, the Kilindini dhow sleeps up to a maximum of four people with prices starting from US$500 for a day trip and US$750 for day plus night trip.
