Rottnest Island Authority's new winter campaign See The Other Side Of Rottnest is shining a light on the range of unique experiences and attractions on offer at Rottnest during the cooler months.

Not only is the island a few degrees warmer than Perth during winter, it's the perfect place to re-energise and connect with yourself and loved ones. From nature and wildlife, to hikes, hospitality and history – it's time for Rotto to be recognised as far more than Perth's summer playground.

Hamish Beck, Rottnest Island Authority Chairperson, said from May to September the cooler weather brings an abundance of wildlife and a sense of adventure.

“Winter is when nature comes alive on the island, so for the curious, it's the perfect time for twitchers to roam or families to welcome the joey quokkas as they peer out of their pouches for the first time.

“For those looking to relax and reconnect with family and friends, there is accommodation to suit all tastes and budgets and a variety of restaurants and retail respites.

“There's never been a better time to jump on the ferry to see the other side of Rottnest Island, with some fantastic discounts throughout May for guests travelling to the island until September.” Mr Beck said.

TOP TEN THINGS TO DO ON THE OTHER SIDE OF ROTTNEST ISLAND
1) NATURE HIKES - hike one of the island's five unique Wadjemup Bidi trails, each offering a distinctive experience and backdrop that you can only access on foot. The Perth-based hiking adventure tour company The Hike Collective offer bespoke guided tours that give you the freedom to choose your own route, customised to your abilities and interests.
2) BIRD WATCHING – winter is the perfect time for bird lovers to roam the island with the coastal areas and wetlands full of birdlife.
3) WHALE WATCHING – August is the beginning of the whale watching season, as Humpback and southern right whales migrate past the island, with guided Eco Express tours kicking off in September.
4) BABY QUOKKAS – May to September is the best time to see quokkas in their natural habitat. During August you'll see little joeys poking their heads out of their mothers' pouches before taking their first hops out into the world in September.
5) GO CULTURAL TOUR - Re-discover the island from the perspective of its traditional owners, the Whadjuk Noongar people with a Welcome to Country and Aboriginal sand/water ceremony, before moving through a journey of Noongar language, song, and storytelling.
6) CAPTURE THE LIGHT PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR - With the awe-inspiring landscapes, truly unique wildlife, and historic sites, Wadjemup is an inspiring place to acquire new skills and camera knowledge.
7) HISTORY - Immerse yourself in the history of the island at the Wadjemup Museum, an essential stop for any visitor to the island.
8) FISHING - Staying on the island in winter is all about the quiet moments and some of the best peace can be found in an early morning fishing expedition at the countless beaches and headlands.
9) TAKE TO THE AIR, BUS OR SEGWAY – See the island from a new perspective on board a scenic flight or as you sky-dive from 40,000ft. The Island Bus and Segway tours run throughout the cooler months, so there's many ways to get around.
10) GOLF –Tucked away behind the settlement towards The Basin, golfers have been escaping to the oasis of the Rottnest Golf Course for over 50 years. You can hire everything you need on-site or bring your own personal gear.
