Perhaps most recognisable is the Norway Spruce, Britain's traditional Christmas tree; visitors will also be wowed by the American Christmas Tree (Abies Grandis) which is over 70ft tall and close enough to brush the reindeer's feet as they fly over Cornwall on Christmas Eve. Find the beautiful purple Evergreen, Cryptomeria Japonica, from Japan which is over 60ft tall; as well as the brilliant Blue Spanish Fir, Abies Pinsapo 'Glauca' which is found in the mountains of Mediterranean Spain.
Amble from the Pinetum to the Winter Garden. The garden is full of fragrance, colourful flowers and beautiful texture from October through to March, and is the perfect place for a festive walk.
One of the largest in the South West, the Winter Garden was created with the colder months in mind. The 3 acre individual garden is designed like a rose with paths spiralling away from the centre, visitors can discover winter flowers, warm foliage and scented leaves. A feature of the Winter Garden is the interesting and beautiful quality of the bark on the various trees as well as many varietals of heather, hundreds of bulbs and unusual evergreen trees.
