With the arrival of a number of new hotels in the past 12 months, Kyoto's hotel scene is set to unfold even further. Whether visitors are looking to stay within an expansive space or experience something a little more boutique, Kyoto's newest hotels are well-equipped to suit all tastes and budgets.
Last winter saw the arrival of two hotels in two very different areas of the city. In November 2015, Kyoto welcomed the opening of the new Noku Roxy hotel, located adjacent to Kyoto Imperial Palace in the heart of the ancient Japanese city. Each of the rooms have been elegantly designed for utmost comfort, whilst displaying the subtle beauty of traditional Kyoto craftsmanship. During their stay at the hotel, guests can wake up to the gentle sounds of wind chimes and sample seasonal culinary specialties that have remain unchanged since the Edo era, all whilst enjoying scenic views of Kyoto. October 2015 also saw the arrival of new lodgings, with the Urban Hotel Kyoto-Nijo Premium opening its doors to visitors. The new property is an ideal choice for travellers who want to get out and explore Kyoto, thanks to its central location just 15 minutes from Nijo-jo Castle. Rooms feature a simple layout with tasteful Japanese décor and for those looking to sample some fine Japanese cuisine, the Kyowasabi restaurant serves a variety of Japanese dishes, which are made with locally sourced ingredients. This year, the Four Seasons Kyoto is due to open from October and its beautifully sleek and spacious composition is bound to complement the city's aesthetic. The hotel will be the Four Seasons group's second property in Japan and will reside in Kyoto's popular historic Higashiyama-ku district, close to the Kyoto National Museum and countless heritage sites, such as the Toyokuni Shrine and Kiyomizu Temple. Each room has been designed and decorated in traditionally-inspired yet modern style: light-filled bedrooms and suites will be richly-embellished by local artwork, and the double-height windows throughout the hotel's common parts will boast spectacular views in every direction. An 800-year-old 'ikeniwa' pond garden will lie at the heart of the hotel's grounds and facilities on offer will include multiple dining options, a state-of-the-art fitness centre, spa and swimming pool, as well as a sunlit chapel for business functions.
