Inspired by BBC2's Ghost Bear Family this week? (BBC2 Natural World, 8pm, Thursday 23 July 2015). British Columbia's Great Bear Rainforest is the only place in the world to see the Kermode (Spirit) Bears featured in the programme.
Spirit Bears, unique to British Columbia, are part of the Black Bear family but carry a recessive gene that results in white or cream coloured fur.
Wildlife Worldwide (www.wildlifeworldwide.com) offers the chance to see the Spirit Bear, along with black bears and grizzlies, on an 11-day Great Bear Rainforest itinerary including 7-nights cruising around Great Bear Rainforest on a 68' sailing vessel (full board), accommodation in Vancouver, international and domestic flights from £4745 per person.
Spirit Bear Lodge (www.spiritbear.com) is a community-based lodge owned and operated by the Kitasoo/Xai'xais First Nation. It offers 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7-night bear watching tours between May and October. It is reached by plane from Vancouver to Klemtu.
