School Books for a Booking at Maine's Inn by the Sea

Cape Elizabeth…Maine's premier beach destination, Inn by the Sea, will purchase a book for a local school for each reservation made for a stay in the month of December, announced Carrie Dyer, the Inn's General Manager.  Inn by the Sea's Books for a Booking hopes to support a culture of reading in local elementary and middle school students by purchasing new books that inspire confidence, open doors to learning and stimulate imagination.

“We are delighted to be working with several local school librarians to ensure the books we purchase excite middle and elementary students and encourage a lifelong connection to information, understanding and discovery,” stated Carrie Dyer. “The program is simple- book a room for a December stay at Inn by the Sea and we will purchase a book from the schools'  “wish lists.”

Books for a Booking is new toa larger community /school program collaboration spearheaded by Jane Eberle, South Portland Schools Director of Business Partnerships between Inn by the Sea, Project G.R.A.C.E, Skillin, Brown, Dyer , Small and Kaler Elementary Schools, and Mahoney and Memorial Middle Schools.

From Thanksgiving to New Year's Inn by the Sea has several Giving Trees throughout the property decorated with handmade student ornaments.  Guests, staff and community are encouraged to trade one of the student ornaments for warm clothes that are distributed to shelters and food banks by Project G.R.A.C.E. throughout the winter. As a 'thank you' for a contribution, the donor receives a $20, property wide gift certificate from Inn by the Sea, valid January through June 15.

Participating school students visit the Inn to view piles of donations they helped generate in December and later return to participate in Earth Day celebrations, and help clean Crescent Beach. Books for a Booking now offers the Inn a broader connection for support to local schools.
