Saxony Tourism launches new website with comprehensive tourism database

Saxony Tourism (Tourismus Marketing Gesellschaft Sachsen – TMGS) has launched a brand-new website in German and English. At its core sits the Saxon Tourism Network, SaTourN for short, as the first central database containing comprehensive tourism content for the region of Saxony.

Saxony is thus taking a major step towards digitalisation of the region's tourism industry as the SaTourN database enables interested parties and travellers to find online Saxony offers and digital experiences in previously unknown quality as well as allows access all relevant information in one central digital hub. At the same time, this digital infrastructure piece provides a modern system for data maintenance and data management, which will also enable the integration of AI technologies in the future. "In a digitalised society, data, along with emotions, are tourism's new currency. They are the gold of the future. If you want to attract guests today, you have to accompany them online in all phases of their customer journey, before, during and after their trips – from providing them inspiration when they are at home browsing on their couch to digital booking options. This is the only way to get into people's heads and become part of their travel plans," says Barbara Klepsch, Saxony's Minister of State for Culture and Tourism.

With its innovative digital tourism architecture, Saxony Tourism is leading the way in Germany. While the majority of the country's federal states are currently developing central content databases, Saxony's simultaneous combination of open data and technology structures with a completely new website including a modular system for regional tourism partners makes its digital strategy unique in Germany. With its new digital tourism architecture, Saxony Tourism is responsible for and coordinates a future project of enormous scope, also at a country-wide level:

"Creating even more visibility for Saxony as a tourist destination and providing corresponding digital experiences is one of our main goals. High-quality content that appeals to our target groups creates relevance and is treated preferentially by search engines," comments Veronika Hiebl, Managing Director of Saxony Tourism, on the new website www.visitsaxony.com. Saxony Tourism as the competence centre for tourism in Saxony supports its regional partners with its extensive know-how in the further development of their communication and product design "because well-prepared digital data of all stakeholders is essential for a successful and joint marketing of Saxony as one of the most attractive travel destinations in Germany."

In addition to the current German and English version, the website will also be available in Polish, Czech, Dutch, Italian, Russian and Chinese in the future.
