Families heading abroad for Easter sunshine can save up to 56% on the cost of their holiday simply by changing their start date, according to research.
Holiday Hypermarket has found that the difference between average prices on the cheapest and most expensive departure days during the Easter school break regularly tops £1,000 for a family of four, with savings of more than £2,000 in some popular destinations.
For example, by reviewing the average prices of seven-night 4* all-inclusive holidays for two adults and two children flying from London, the research found that:
- The average price for seven nights in Lanzarote is £1,228 per person for departures on Wednesday 8 April, but this falls to £539pp on Sunday 12 April, a total saving of £2,756 (56%) for a family of four.
- For a long-haul break to Mexico, the average price for flights on Sunday 12 April is £1,776pp, compared to just £1,162pp on Thursday, 9 April, a total saving of £2,456 (35%) for four.
- For Egypt, families of four can save £1,160 (29%) by flying on Sunday 12 April when average prices are only £714pp, compared to Wednesday 8 April when they are £1,004pp.
See the accompanying table for details of how much families can save at a selection of destinations for departures from London.
The strategy works for regional airports too, with Holiday Hypermarket finding big differences in holiday prices for departures from airports in the Midlands, North West and Scotland. The data and results are published here:
