ESCAPE TO DOWNTOWN'S UNDERGROUND

The Gaslamp Quarter's historic buildings boast basements, a feature not frequently found in Southern California, which has spurred the imaginations of nightclub developers who have taken the nightlife scene underground. Ranging from intimate to expansive, these venues serve up local and internationally known talent on the turntables in atmospheres that are only one flight below street level, but far removed from the real world.

  • At Café Sevilla, flamenco dancers keep audiences spellbound on Friday and Saturday nights.  As the crowd moves downstairs to the dance floor, patrons heat things up with spicy salsa moves, while the DJ plays Latin disco and hip-hop music.

  • AD, one of the newest addition to the Gaslamp Quarter's nightlife, offers a diverse selection of craft cocktails, the latest in music, bottle service and a small bites menu. The 4,000 square-foot space is available for private events and will double as a restaurant during the daytime.

  • Home to the Gaslamp Quarter's first Drink Exchange, where drink prices are guest-driven, The Tipsy Crow is located in one of downtown's most historic buildings.  The multi-level bar offers three unique levels, including the main bar with billiards, an underground dance club and an elegant VIP upstairs lounge referred to as the “Nest.”

NIGHTCLUBS THAT SHAKE IT UP

Patrons flock to San Diego's low-lit nightclubs in search of gorgeous crowds, sexy beats and cool cocktails.  Satisfying the need to see and been seen, these chic hot spots offer everything from intimate lounge areas to eye-catching décor to pulsating dance floors.

  • The Hakkasan Group arrived to San Diego with OMNIA, a lavishly designed nightclub featuring both indoor and outdoor spaces. • FLUXX incorporates organic décor amidst bright, bold colors and playful design elements including a large-scale adult tree house, a 15-ft. custom rope chandelier and eye-catching art.

  • Side Bar in the Gaslamp Quarter embodies an Art Deco modern feel with an upscale nightclub ambiance. The decor includes a gypsy-like approach to furnishings, featuring a collection of birdcages that dangle from the lofted ceilings at various heights and black painted brick walls lined with paintings of artistic nudes.

LIVE MUSIC VENUES ROCK

  • The Casbah in Little Italy is the de facto home of indie rock in San Diego; guests can catch local favorites and touring stars in this intimate, authentic club.

  • The Belly Up Tavern's acoustics and atmosphere are legendary for bringing the hottest hip-hop, jazz, reggae and world beat stars to Solana Beach in San Diego's North County.

  • At Croce's Park West in Bankers Hill, live jazz is performed nightly. Established as a tribute to 70's singer/songwriter Jim Croce, the venue is decorated with photos and memorabilia of the late music legend.

MIX IT UP SAN DIEGO STYLE

San Diego nightlife is also all about the “mix,” whether it's mixing the unpretentiousness of a classic dive bar with the sophistication of hand-crafted cocktails, or showcasing the highest quality, local fare with the hottest DJs spinning the latest tunes.

  • Noble Experiment in downtown's East Village is a reservation-only speakeasy that can only be accessed by pushing through a faux wall of beer kegs in a local burger joint. A catacomb-like wall of golden skulls inside only heightens this quirky, hush-hush experience, where patrons sip creations from some of the finest mixologists in town.

  • In downtown's Little Italy, patrons can find craft cocktails mixed with delicious, new American comfort food at Craft & Commerce, a sister property of Noble Experiment.

  • Zymology 21 recently opened in downtown's historic Gaslamp Quarter. The bar offers drinks formulated through house fermentation, puree and infusion techniques like organic molecularly-infused liquors and syphon coffee; a vapor-pressured process that vacuum brews coffee, through a double chambered pot. Zymology 21 also serves small bites and is open for brunch, dinner and late night cocktails.
