Salt Meats Cheese Muscles Into Mosman

Sydney's renowned food emporium, Salt Meats Cheese, is set to open a second store in Mosman next month. Salt Meats Cheese co-director Stefano de Blasi this week said he was very excited about the store's expansion into the North Shore.

The young Italian says the 150 sq. m store will be modeled on the original Sydney store, which opened its doors in an Alexandria warehouse in 2011, but with a distinct personality that relates to its position on the northern shores of Sydney Harbour.

"About 30 per cent of our customers at Salt Meats Cheese are from Alexandria so it made sense that we opened another store on the North Shore. This new hub is all about enhancing the lifestyle of locals. We do a lot of deliveries in that area so we thought it was time to now have a physical presence, too," says de Blasi.

"The store in Mosman is a different market. In Alexandria we are a destination, where everyone needs to drive and come to us for a good reason, whereas in Mosman, although there is a public car park next door, we are located in the middle of a pedestrianised area so locals can walk to us for all their everyday products and ready-made meals," he says.

De Blasi says he and cousin Edoardo Perlo will manage the store, which he believes will be a hugely popular addition to the beachside suburb.

While the 'Salt Meats Cheese' providore theme will be a huge component of the Mosman store, it will also be open for coffee and pastries in the morning, pizza focaccia and paninos for lunch and wine and cheese in the evening. It will even have it's own formagerie.

"Salt Meats Cheese is all about providing quality ingredients and ready-made meals that help people find some balance in their busy lives. Convenience should not come at the expense of good taste. We will be serving light contemporary salads and available for catering events, too and can deliver food to your doorstep," he says.

A differentiator with the Mosman store is that it will cater to local yachties who like to enjoy the weekend sun on the water, with seafood platters made to order. Mosman's SMC will also have imported wines, beer on tap, and an offsite coffee roaster where they will be making a signature SMC blend. SMC will also say 'ciao' to Surfer's Paradise where it is poised to open a new store in June 2015.
