Results of Cond Nast Traveler magazine's eighth annual ski survey give top honors to resorts in Big and Little Cottonwood canyons. The results, based on a nationwide poll of the magazine's readers, were announced in the December issue of Cond Nast Traveler.
Alta Ski Area was named the No. 1 resort in North America for terrain and conditions, followed by Vail, Snowmass, and Beaver Creek, all in Colorado. Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort rounded out the top five resorts in the terrain and conditions category.
Solitude Mountain Resort came in second in the lifts and lines category, behind Snowmass, Colorado, and ahead of Sun Valley, Idaho, Deer Valley, Utah, and Big Sky, Montana, also listed in the top five.
"It's a huge honor for us, along with Snowbird and Solitude," said Connie Marshall, spokesperson for Alta. "Since 1938, Alta's terrain, alpine scenery, and superb snow have combined to create a unique setting for unforgettable outdoor experiences with family, friends, and the mountain itself."
Also mentioned in a ranking of 50 top ski lodges were Alta's Rustler Lodge (No. 22), the Cliff Lodge at Snowbird (No. 35), and the Alta Lodge (No. 44).
The Cond Nast honors come on the heels of Skiing magazine's annual rankings, which named Snowbird and Alta as the No. 1 resort in the United States for the second year in a row.
"The alpine beauty, terrain, and snow quality in Big and Little Cottonwood canyons are really special," said Jason Mathis, spokesman for the Salt Lake Convention & Visitors Bureau. "We spend a lot of time telling the world what a great destination Salt Lake County is and it's rewarding to see readers of national travel magazines agree."
