Sail, Scuba Dive, Solve a Mystery, Feed a Fish With 2005 Aquarium Adventures Programs

Monterey Bay Aquarium

Summer at the Monterey Bay Aquarium means Aquarium Adventures programs are in full swing. This year, look for the return of some favorite programs and a new one just for families with younger children.

The Underwater Explorers surface SCUBA program for kids and Science Under Sail research excursions return in June. Since the popular Underwater Explorers program began in 2003, thousands of children have earned the title of Underwater Explorer by diving in the Great Tide Pool exhibit under close supervision by aquarium staff.

Science Under Sail is an exciting three-hour trip on Monterey Bay aboard the aquariums 65-foot, state-of-the-art research sailboat. Theres no experience quite like being under full sail aboard a beauty of a boat like the Derek M. Baylis and its available nowhere else.

New this year, theres a mystery to solve in the Splash Zone is your family up to the challenge? Super Sea Sleuths is a new program geared toward families with children ages 3 to 9 years. You and your young detectives can work together to solve the mystery on Saturday mornings from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. between July 16 and August 20.

Other fun Aquarium Adventures programs returning this year are family camp-ins offered exclusively for aquarium members and their guests; walking tours of historic Cannery Row; and behind-the-scenes feeding tours. The annual Aquarium Adventures programs are a first for the renowned aquarium, which in the past has created special programs for members but not the general public. Each Aquarium Adventure offers visitors a closer look at some of their favorite exhibits, such as the Splash Zone and the sea otters. Enrollment is limited to ensure an intimate experience for all participants. For registration and to find more information, visit www.montereybayaquarium.org or call the toll-free Aquarium Adventures reservation line at 866-963-9646.
