Saffire Freycinet has been awarded Australasia’s Best Boutique Hotel at the Boutique Hotel Awards in London on 28 November 2013, reinforcing its position as one of the finest boutique properties in Australasia.
As well as Best Boutique Accommodation, the luxurious property set amidst the wilderness of Tasmania’s east coast was also awarded a Culinary Excellence accolade to add to its growing list of prestigious industry awards in 2013. Earlier this year, Australia’s peak hotel industry board, the Australian Hotels Association (AHA) named Saffire the best resort-style accommodation at their National Awards for Excellence.
Saffire's restaurant, Palate, prides itself on showcasing the best Tasmania has to offer, and provides tailor-made experiences to suit all guests.
Head chef Hugh Whitehouse learned the intricacies of classic French cooking under some of Europe’s greatest chefs at the top-ranking Dolder Grand in Zurich and the Chewton Glen in England, before returning to Sydney and putting North Shore restaurants Milsons and Jaspers on the culinary map.
“In the kitchen I use premium local ingredients sourced from an established network of Tasmanian and specifically East Coast growers,” Hugh says. “I believe that food is about showcasing the best of the season and should offer a balanced and textured dining experience.”
Multi-course degustation menus matched with the outstanding local wines are Hugh’s speciality, with menus designed around what is fresh out of the water or the paddock on any given day. Furnished with a contemporary, eclectic mix of designer furniture, Palate seats up to 40 guests over two tiers of seating, allowing each diner to take in the spectacular panoramic view.
The Boutique Hotel Awards are the first and only international awards scheme exclusively dedicated to recognising unique excellence among boutique hotels. The awards look to provide such establishments with the acclaim and reward that they so dearly deserve, championing hotels that possess a unique character whilst still providing world-class services and facilities.
Saffire’s General Manager Justin King said, “Being awarded for the best boutique accommodation in Australasia and culinary excellence is a real honour. We have such an amazing team here at Saffire that pride themselves on what they do and the exclusive service and culinary experience they provide our guests everyday. We look forward to bringing this special part of Tasmania to more guests in the future.”
