Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur will be welcoming ten of the Rugby World Cup matches in 2023, in a fitting tribute to the region's dynamism
and team spirit, from the host cities of Nice and Marseille to the tiniest village in the Luberon...
Coming to France from September 8th to October 28th, 2023, the Rugby World Cup is the world's third largest sporting event in terms of spectators (outside the Olympic Games), with economic spinoffs estimated at 3.2 billion euros. The Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region will be hosting the lion's share of the meetings, with 10 out of 48 matches including two quarter finals. An impressive 500,000 spectators are awaited, along with hundreds of journalists from 175 countries.
The Provence Alpes Côte d'Azur Regional Council, Regional Tourist Board and host cities of Marseille and Nice, together with our partners the Toulon Provence Méditerranée Metropolitan Area, Aix-en-Provence, Antibes Juan-les-Pins and the Luberon, are working together as a pack to bring our "region of happiness" to rugby fans and encourage them to linger longer after the event.
Home to two iconic stadiums - in Nice-Côte d'Azur and in Marseille-Provence, seating 35,000 and 67,000 fans respectively – the region promises to offer a dazzling stage for the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Nice, the team base for Scotland, will be hosting four matches, with six in Marseille including two quarter finals. Located within easy reach of each other, the two host cities are connected to the entire world thanks to their international airports and offer extensive regional public transport networks. Privileged partners to the event: the Toulon Provence Méditerranée Metropolitan Area, an historic temple of rugby and the team base for South Africa; Aixen-Provence, home to an innovative rugby campus; Antibes Juan-les-Pins, clocking up high-level sporting achievements; the Luberon in the heart of Provence, an ode to slow tourism.
Experts in the art of entertaining, the Côte d'Azur and Provence are delighted to unveil their many assets to an international clientele avid for powerful travel experiences: an endless variety of scenery, wine & gastronomy, lifestyle, major festivals and a plethora of events… Not forgetting our gentle, sunny climate. The months of September and October are ideal for Mediterranean water sports and hikes in the Southern Alps alike.
Welcome to the region of happiness!
