Former England and British Lions star Mark Regan will once more go from hooker to hacker when he attempts to defend his Wooden Spoon Golf Classic title at La Manga Club (www.lamangaclub.com), in May.
The ex-Bristol and Leeds player will be just one of a host of rugby stars gracing the world-renowned resorts fairways, with England legend Jason Leonard, ex-Scotland captain Gavin Hastings and Englands most-capped full-back, Matt Perry, among those vying to win the crown.
Leonard, Englands most-capped player, came third in the 2009 event but is aiming to improve on that this time round.
The prop forward said: Im really looking forward to getting back out to La Manga Club. Its always a fantastic trip.
Third place was a decent finish last year but I cant let Mark take the glory again, so Ill definitely be looking to come away with the title.
Seriously though, its one of those events where no matter how you play youre guaranteed to have a good time and its a fantastic way to raise some money for a tremendous cause.
The competitions fourth outing will be on May 19-23, with the three previous visits to La Manga Club raising more than 40,000 towards rugby-based childrens charity Wooden Spoons goal of helping underprivileged children and young people live happier, richer lives.
The Stableford contest will see teams of three play three competitive rounds, each with a different rugby star.
Hastings said: Im looking forward to competing in the fourth Wooden Spoon Golf Classic at La Manga Club. My family and I have enjoyed the resort for many years now, the facilities are first class for golfers and non-golfers alike.
Three terrific golf courses, indoor and outdoor pools, fantastic spa facilities and a wide variety of restaurants make the resort perfect for the whole family and three days of competitive golf.
Entry also includes four-nights bed and breakfast in the five-star Hotel La Manga Club Principe Felipe, a welcome drinks reception, welcome dinner, private barbeque, gala dinner with entertainment, a golfers goodie bag and a donation to Wooden Spoon among other things.
Packages for golfers start from just 999 per person, with players able to enter individually, or as a pair or full team, and non-playing packages are available for only 599.
Wooden Spoons deputy CEO, Tony Richards, said: The golf classic at La Manga Club is always hugely successful for us. Over the years it has been a huge boost to our fundraising efforts and is one of the most enjoyable events were involved in.
Every year the competition has grown, getting bigger and better. Ive no doubt this will continue this year and Im looking forward to another brilliant trip.
