Royal Plaza on Scotts joins Earth Hour 2015

Royal Plaza on Scotts

Royal Plaza on Scotts (RP) participated in Earth Hour 2015, by switching off non-essential lights in the hotel from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on Saturday, 28 March. This is the sixth year RP has participated in this initiative. Lights were dimmed in the lobby, leaving only emergency lights on for guests' movement.

Electronic and Earth Hour posters were displayed around the hotel to share information on this meaningful initiative with guests and encourage their participation. Guests were encouraged to support this initiative by switching off the electronic devices and lights in their rooms which were not in use.

In addition, guests who were dining in award-winning buffet restaurant, Carousel, were invited to take part in this initiative by lighting up soy candles on their tables. These soy wax candles are eco-friendly and renewable.

Being environmentally conscious is a continuous effort at Royal Plaza on Scotts. The award-winning hotel has also received accolades for its green efforts, such as the biennial Singapore Green Hotel Award 2013 from Singapore Hotel Association. RP has various green initiatives that involve both guests and associates. These include placing recycling boxes at the hotel entrance and in offices around the hotel to encourage guests and associates to practise recycling and reducing waste. Guests are also encouraged to conserve the environment by reusing their towels to reduce water usage. The hotel's pens are also made from recycled fibre that is biodegradable and to reduce paper waste, RP is also the first hotel to go paperless for its supply of newspapers. The guests simply log on to the hotel's complimentary Wi-Fi connection for their daily dose of news. Nespresso capsules used in the hotel's 511 guestrooms are also sent back for recycling to support the green movement.
