Royal Plaza on Scotts (RP) received the “He Xie” Special Award at SME One Asia Awards 2014 for the hotel's commitment to its people. “He Xie” which means “Harmony” in Mandarin, sums up the award that recognises an outstanding employer who understands the value of employees' contribution to company's success and rewards employees in return. This is also the first time the “He Xie” Special Award has been introduced at the awards ceremony.

The panel of judges selected RP from the list based on its human resource development policies, encompassing areas of employees' welfare, training and well-being.

The hotel has in place strategies for retention and development of a multi-generational workforce which plays an important role in the market today. RP was also an early adopter that has rolled out re-employment practices since 2007.

The mix of associates from multi-generations complements the organisation's structure as the younger associates add energy and zest to the environment while the mature employees are able to take the younger ones under their wings to provide guidance. The cross-pollination of ideas across generations creates opportunities for associates to learn from one another and bring about refreshing changes to the work place.

One of the new initiatives, Bond to Have Fun, encourages associates to engage with colleagues from other departments and this is welcomed by the associates across all ages. Associates can claim expenses for cross-departmental group activities such as café hopping, prawning and fishing. The photos from these activities are posted on the RP human resources' Facebook page which can be viewed by our associates and their loved ones.

The objective for all strategies are in line with the hotel's Employee Value Proposition, to have fun, which increases the happiness index in the workplace as the hotel believes that happy staff make happy guests.

Patrick Fiat, Chief Experience Officer of Royal Plaza on Scotts said, “We are humbled to receive the first ever “He Xie” Special Award by SME One Asia Awards. The award epitomises how much we value our associates as individuals and for their contributions that define the success of the organisation.”
