Experience wine culture at first hand – wine festivals in the Rhine & Moselle region
Bright traditional costumes, fine regional food and street music - more than 1,000 wine festivals once again make the wine regions around the Rhine and Moselle rivers come alive in festivals. On the occasion of the 600th anniversary of the Dürkheim sausage market, regional Palatinate winemakers will be celebrating the biggest wine festival in the world in Dürkheim from 9 to 13 September 2016 and 16 to 19 September 2016. In the chic wine village and in cosy festival marquees, guests will be enchanted by irresistible white and red wines and selected sparkling wines from wine estates.
An unforgettable support programme offers 20 highlights of the German Wine Institute wine culture. A tour of the Weilberg Roman villa and its wine presses is perfect for rounding off a visit to the Dürkheim sausage market. This is where you will find all the wine culture highlights.


With the hiking route planner along "Germany's most beautiful hiking trail in 2015"
The Moselle dream track Pyrmonter Felsensteig (Pyrmont rocky steps) stretches along a distance of around 12 kilometres. Thanks to its unique scenery, the premium hiking trail was chosen as "Germany's most beautiful hiking train in 2015". The peaceful forest and grass path meanders past picturesque waterfalls at Pyrmont Mill, across spacious fields and through the nature reserve at Juckelberg to the cutter's cabin. This is where hikers can enjoy a stunning panoramic view of the Rhine-Moselle-Eifel region. The trail continues along the Elzbach river and the cliffs of the Teufelskammer, the "Devil's Den", to romantic, medieval Pyrmont Castle.

Visitors can activate hiking tours in the portal, see sections of trails in detail and save them as a PDF file, print them or download the GPS data. Discover live history – 30 years of UNESCO World Cultural Heritage in Trier
The once-flourishing Roman Empire trade and administrative metropolis is celebrating a special anniversary of its impressive history this year. In 1986 the nine cultural sites in Trier were declared UNESCO World Heritage sites, and even today, they still reflect the glory of the former imperial residence.
Nowhere else in Central Europe will you find as many authentically preserved monuments as in Germany's oldest city. In Trier, visitors can go on a journey through time to take them back through Roman history - to the best-preserved Roman city gate north of the Alps, Porta Nigra, or the second-biggest Roman thermal baths, the Barbara Thermal Baths.
Let your customers experience 30 years of UNESCO World Heritage this year, and look forward now already to what awaits you during the celebration of 200 years of Karl Marx in Trier (2018).

Magical display of lights at Rhein in Flammen® (Rhine in Flames)
This year again, visitors to Rhineland-Palatinate will be enchanted by the sheer magnitude and incredible beauty of the "Rhein in Flammen®“ events. Fantastic fireworks, Bengal lights on the banks of the Rhine and "burning" castles all immerse the scenery along Germany's longest river in enchanting light.
Your customers have the choice of experiencing the unforgettable firework display during Europe's biggest parade of ships on water. Several firework displays highlight the romantic atmosphere as they accompany visitors on their journey between Spay and Koblenz. A total of five sections of the Rhine between Rüdesheim and Bonn will be bathed in the light of the firework displays up to the end of September. You will find all the locations and dates here.

•    Combine your visit to the World Heritage sites with a visit to the special exhibition on "Nero - Emperor, Artist and Tyrant" in Trier, in which you can follow the footsteps of Emperor Nero. The exhibition ends on 31 October 2016.
