Rockford Garden Wins Gold Medal And Best Garden In Show At Malvern Autumn Show

Rockford, Illinois

The city of Rockford, Illinois, last weekend scooped a gold medal and was also named best garden in show at the Malvern Autumn show, at the Three Counties Showground, Worcestershire. The edible garden inspired by Rockford, Illinois known as 'The City of Gardens' was designed by landscape architecture students from the University of Gloucestershire, Steve Mann & Jake Poloni.

The student's design sought to celebrate features of Rockford's urban and rural landscape. The space was divided into an irregular grid that references the pattern visible from the aerial views of the city and in particular the surrounding field layouts. The garden also contained a curved body of water that runs across the space explores the juxtaposition of the organic meandering path of the Rock River with the formality of Rockford's urban development.

This garden was selected to be entered into the show from a number of Rockford inspired entries that were then judged by a panel of experts from Rockford.

The Malvern Autumn show features a variety of exhibitors from different areas, including gardening, food and the countryside. During the show representatives were there running a competition to win a holiday to Chicago and Rockford in the Great Lakes USA.
