Rock And Rail Around Australia's Northern Territory

Tourism NT - Australia

Young Travellers will be able to take in some of Australia’s and the world’s most iconic sites including  Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kings Canyon and Kakadu thanks to  STA Travel’s (www.statravel.co.uk , 0333 321 0099) eight day Rock, Rail and Kakadu package. The tour, which costs from £929 per person, starts in the outback town of Alice Springs and ends in the Northern Territory’s capital of Darwin.*

The tour will give travellers the opportunity to see and cover as much of Australia’s Northern Territory as possible. Starting in Alice Springs, they can experience Aboriginal culture before making their way down to Uluru to enjoy their first incredible desert sunset. Camping under a million stars, they will get a feel for the real outback, before waking up to see the sunrise against the incredible changing backdrop of Uluru. The more adventurous will then be challenged to a hike through the striking sheer chasms of Kings Canyon. The first phase of the tour ends with a camel ride and the chance to soak up the Red Centre from a different perspective.

Forget the plane and instead take the legendary Ghan train to travel in style up to the Top End. Once on board the train travellers will witness the contrast in colours as the landscape changes from desert red to tropical lush green.

On arrival in the Top End, head straight to Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks to see some Aussie wildlife and a chance to cool off under the waterfalls while admiring the breathtaking scenery. This will be the last stop before the tour returns to the laid back, tropical capital of Darwin where travellers can enjoy alfresco dining and fine sunsets to beach side markets and sailing.

*The tour excludes international flights. Accommodation and most meals are included within the package. As the tour departs early participants are advised to arrive in Alice Springs the day before.
