Michigan is the location for TV star Robson Green's attempt to win the coveted Bass Grand Slam in the third episode of his new series, 'Robson Green's Grand Slam', to be transmitted on 6 February 2017 at 9pm on Travel Channel. In this globe-trotting ten-part series, actor and seasoned fisherman Robson Green is angling for the International Game Fishing Association's most exclusive accolade – the Grand Slam. Can he catch three or more different species of fish within the space of just twenty-four hours in each destination?
As home to some of the best freshwater fishing in the world, Michigan was the obvious choice for Robson to attempt the coveted Bass Grand Slam. He's on one of the best bass fishing lakes, Lake St Clair, in America, but is it enough to secure the prize and help put Robson into the record books? The episode opens with sweeping views of Detroit, just 30 miles away from this bass fishing mecca, before focusing on Robson's battle on Lake St Clair.
Casting off, he wades boldly in, battling the vagaries of the weather and the merciless ticking of the clock in his attempt to land himself a place in the record books. Handy tips and tricks are supplied by fellow enthusiasts of rod and reel, while state-of-the-art camera technology captures every sling of Robson's hook, seeing to it that none of the underwater action slips the net as he goes all out for Grand Slam glory.
Achieving a Grand Slam is the ultimate challenge for an angler. It's the holy grail of fishing and if Robson Green achieves it, his name will be in the record books, alongside the fishing elite.
The IGFA's (International Game Fishing Association) Grand Slam Clubs honour the outstanding accomplishment of catching a collection of different game fish species by one angler in a single day. Club members receive a custom, hand-signed certificate, and are permanently listed online and in IGFA's World Record Game Fishes book.
For purposes of the IGFA Grand Slam Clubs, catching three species in one day equals a Grand Slam, four different species equals a Super Grand Slam, and five different species equals a Fantasy Slam. The Grand Slam is no mean feat, and not many anglers can claim to have succeeded at winning the title. Should he succeed, Robson will be the first ever professional actor to achieve the Grand Slam.
