A group video sing-along to the Robbie Williams' classic, Angels, is set to make the perfect “Staffordshire Day” tribute to keyworkers getting the country through the coronavirus pandemic.
Organisers Enjoy Staffordshire, with the help of Staffordshire County Council and other local authority partners, are inviting people who live in Staffordshire, or come from Staffordshire, to record their own version of the Robbie hit and email it in.
The entries will then be edited into one video, and dedicated to the thousands of NHS staff, carers, armed forces personnel, delivery drivers, supermarket workers, farmers, emergency services staff and other 'angels' who are keeping the county and the country going through the current crisis.
The video will premiere on the Enjoy Staffordshire website on Friday, May 1, as part of this year's online-only Staffordshire Day programme, which will also feature poetry readings, art classes, cooking demonstrations, talks and live music.
Mark Winnington, Cabinet Member responsible for tourism at Staffordshire County Council and Vice Chair of Destination Staffordshire said: “For Staffordshire Day this year, we want to bring people together and thank the angels who have stepped up to get the nation through the Coronavirus crisis”.
He added: “A sing-along is a great way to do that, and what better song than Angels for the occasion? Robbie's one of our own and we're very proud of him in Staffordshire, and the song is hugely uplifting and meaningful. Let's make a great video and show our angels just how much we love them in Staffordshire.”
Full details of how to get involved in the sing-along, and where to send your entry, are available at www.enjoystaffordshire.com/angels.
Last year, over 30,000 people attended Staffordshire Day events, and there were more than 5,700 tweets using #StaffordshireDay, with the hashtag trending nationally for the whole day.
The date, decided by a public vote in 2015, marks the anniversary of Josiah Wedgwood setting up his world-famous Staffordshire pottery company in 1759.

Enjoy Staffordshire is the consumer facing brand of Destination Staffordshire.
Launched in 2006, Destination Staffordshire is a private/public sector partnership of major attractions, tourism businesses and local authorities created to develop and drive leisure and business tourism economies in Staffordshire.
Staffordshire's community spirit will take centre stage for this year's Staffordshire Day which is still set to “go ahead” on Friday, May 1. The event will be online-only, with a series of activities live-streamed and broadcast on social media - reflecting the restrictions placed on travel and mass gatherings. Organisers, Enjoy Staffordshire, with the support of Staffordshire County Council and other local authority partners, have decided to use Staffordshire Day to help bring communities together, and provide a morale boost while the country remains on lockdown. Instead of the celebrations of previous years, which featured special events, offers and competitions, the 2020 edition will see a combination of live performances, talks and demonstrations, and classes to get involved with from your living room. The May 1 date is the anniversary of Josiah Wedgwood setting up his world-famous Staffordshire pottery company in 1759.
