'Brazil Day'– Celebrating the Olympics and Paralympics in Trafalgar Square

 September 10, 12 – 7pm

Free Admission

Following Team GB's most successful Olympics in more than a century – and also the Brazilian athletes' record haul of medals – Brazil Day in Trafalgar Square on Saturday September 10th will be bringing the celebratory Olympic spirit to London.

Taking place three days after the opening of the Paralympic Games in Rio (September 7th), this free festival will be a chance to enjoy a taste of Brazil's vibrant culture in the heart of London.

There will be live Brazilian music, sporting activities including wheelchair basketball from the Great Britain Wheelchair Basketball Association, big screens featuring Rio 2016 footage, a running track, DJs, and much more. The music will reflect the cultural diversity of Brazil, from alluring bossa nova to the powerful beat of samba, all creating an authentic Rio street-carnival atmosphere.

Brazilian food and drink will include a churrasco barbecue, Amazonian superfood açaí, pão de queijo (cheese bread), and other tantalising treats.

Brazil Day will be a carbon-neutral event. The emissions generated will be offset in the form of support of United Nations-certified emissions-mitigation projects in Brazil.  Brazil Day 2015 was also a climate neutral event: 5.66 tonnes of CO2 equivalent were offset through the acquisition of credits in support of the Manaus Landfill Gas Project, in the State of Amazonas, Brazil. The project contributed to global efforts for greenhouse gas emissions reductions, while providing major socioeconomic benefits locally.
