Regional Express (Rex), in partnership with Mildura Airport and Broken Hill City Council, has announced a significant range of new air services for the cities of Mildura and Broken Hill (see schedules attached).
From 9 July 2012, Mildura will once again have direct flights to Adelaide and Sydney in addition to two daily return flights to Broken Hill. The latter will also see its flights to Sydney boosted from two to three return flights each week day, with an improved schedule that enables professionals from Sydney to make a day return trip to Broken Hill for a full day's work. In addition, Broken Hill will, for the first time, receive air services to Melbourne via Mildura.
Rex General Manager Network Strategy Warrick Lodge said that the new services and schedule changes will bring significant socio-economic benefits to the communities of Mildura and Broken Hill as well as those in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
"All of this would not have been possible without the strong partnerships between Rex and the two councils as well as the respective airports. In particular I would like to pay tribute to Mildura Airport for its bold vision and pro-active policies without which we would not have achieved such a good outcome. I would also like to acknowledge the very long and historic ties we have with Broken Hill City Council which has given us the confidence to put forward this significant investment into the air services of this remote region."
The Chairman of the Board of Mildura Airport, Peter O'Donnell welcomed the new services provided by Rex, as an important addition to services already operating. "The new services will provide important connections to Sydney and Adelaide for leisure and business travellers, together with a convenient connection to Broken Hill."
General Manager of Broken Hill City Council, Frank Zaknich welcomed the announcement which will provide improved air services for Broken Hill and the adjoining region in addition to vital access to Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne. "Council acknowledges this significant investment by Rex into air services for Broken Hill and Mildura. There are very few regional cities that have air service links to three capital cities and this ensures that Broken Hill and Mildura, working in partnership with Rex, are well and truly 'open for business'."
