REMOTE Immersion in Boquete, Panama, celebrates 10 years connecting Latin America

Four days of meetings, experiences, and content bring together Latin American tourism leaders in Chiriquí

Marking its tenth anniversary, REMOTE Immersion — the itinerant event that connects destinations across Latin America — will take place from May 4 to 8 in the town of Boquete, in the highlands of Panama's Chiriquí province. The four-day program will feature immersive destination experiences, inspiring talks, and curated content. One-on-one meetings will take place over three days, alongside social gatherings that reinforce the strong sense of community that defines REMOTE Immersion. In total, 275 tourism professionals with a shared passion for Latin America will come together around a common purpose: to promote independent, responsible, and small-scale tourism across the region.

This year's theme, Latin Pride, reflects a moment in which Latin America is gaining increasing relevance on the global stage as both a cultural reference and a source of inspiration for travelers. It also provides a framework for celebrating the 10-year journey of REMOTE Latin America, the event's organizer. Since its founding, REMOTE has believed that tourism in the region can be a powerful force for connection, learning, and positive impact.

True to its essence, REMOTE Immersion continues to spotlight destinations beyond traditional travel circuits. “Boquete, still relatively undiscovered by international travelers, brings together remarkable natural and cultural diversity, along with a welcoming community deeply connected to its territory. It is the ideal setting to celebrate our 10-year milestone,” says Roberto Bitelman, Director of REMOTE Latin America.

The event is supported by Visit Panama, Host Destination Sponsor of this edition, which has been leading the country's international promotion to highlight its cultural heritage, diversity, and initiatives in innovation and sustainability.

Gloria De León, Minister of Tourism of the Panama Tourism Authority, adds: “Hosting REMOTE Immersion in Boquete shows how Panama is diversifying its tourism offer, bringing the international spotlight to new regions of the country. More than one hundred buyers from 18 countries will not only hear about the destination — they will experience it. This is a strategic opportunity to position Panama as a high-value destination with a sustainable and authentic tourism offering.”

In its tenth edition, REMOTE Immersion will bring together 107 boutique hotels, boats, and DMCs from 14 Latin American countries, connecting them with 110 travel designers from 18 countries, including Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Panama, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States. “Each year, we carry out a careful curation process that values diversity and quality among both exhibitors and buyers. This process is co-created with our participants, based on feedback from each edition, allowing us to continue fostering meaningful connections and generating strong business opportunities,” explains Marcelo Pontes, Commercial Director of REMOTE Latin America.

REMOTE Immersion follows a unique format designed to foster long-term relationships: mornings are dedicated to one-on-one meetings, afternoons to immersive destination experiences, and evenings to inspiring talks and relaxed social gatherings. This dynamic rhythm encourages networking beyond formal meetings.

Talks celebrate the rise of Latin Pride

During REMOTE Talks & Seeds, a series of talks and conversations held daily before dinner, the central theme will be The Rise of Latin Pride. Speakers will highlight Latin American authenticity, bringing forward perspectives that celebrate cultural diversity, natural richness, and ancestral knowledge, while promoting more conscious, connected, and pride-driven travel experiences.

Confirmed speakers include Leonardo de Jesús (VEN) and Ricardo Andrade Malo (ECU) of El Latinómetro Podcast; Kevin Begg (ARG) of Estancia Los Potreros; Rolando Chamorro (PAN) of Hacienda Mamecillo; Marité Flores (PER) of Mabrian Technologies by Data Appeal; Renata Luque (BRA) of Reluq Consultancy; Chaza Fell (CAN) of Kensington Tours; Katrin Kirchhoff (GER) of Travel Pioneers; and Ivonne Zumárraga (ECU) of Golden Galapagos & La Selva Eco-lodge & Retreat.

A sustainability strategy tailored to the destination

Since 2023, REMOTE Immersion has advanced its sustainability strategy, co-created with Regenera NGO and inspired by the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Criteria and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), adapting it to each destination. In Boquete, 14 accommodation and activity providers are participating in a consultancy process that fosters dialogue, guidance, and the adoption of more sustainable practices. Beyond this local engagement, REMOTE Immersion integrates sustainability across all aspects of the event — minimizing single-use plastics, prioritizing responsible suppliers, promoting the appreciation of cultural and natural heritage, and working to reduce environmental impact while enhancing positive outcomes.

REMOTE Legacy invites the Chiriquí community

On May 6, the 7th edition of REMOTE Legacy will take place, with the aim of creating a positive contribution to the host community. Organized in partnership with the Chamber of Tourism, Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture of Boquete, the event will offer free talks in Spanish designed to foster capacity building and promote more responsible tourism.

Under the theme Tourism in Chiriquí: creating unique experiences and reaching the global market,” the gathering invites tourism professionals and students to join a morning of exchange and inspiring content.

REMOTE Legacy will be held at Hotel Panamonte in Boquete on Wednesday, May 6, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The program will feature talks by Gabriella Rodríguez (PROMTUR / Visit Panama), José Rodolfo de La Guardia (PMA Travel Group / EcoCircuitos Panama), Marco Gandásegui (Ancon Expeditions of Panama), and Tania Popovic (Madre Travel, Argentina).
