World Expeditions Travel Group commits to “regenerative travel” on all their adventure destinations by 2030.
The Australian owned global adventure travel company will integrate regenerative projects across all destinations with the aim to leave a place and its people better than when it was found.
The company has launched three Regenerative 2030 travel projects providing training to 30 marginalised female farmers in the Himalaya to build sustainable livelihoods and replacing cook stoves in ten households in the Andes to reduce exposure to indoor air pollution.
The latest project based in Australia is in partnership with the Indigenous Marathon Foundation's I-CAN (Indigenous Communities for Activity & Nutrition) program founded by former world marathon champion Robert de Castella. The program educates school children in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders communities about the importance of physical activity and improves their awareness around physical wellbeing and nutrition.
The aim is to raise dollars to fund an 8 week I-CAN program at a nominated school in Far North Queensland and Torres Straight Island. Once the target fundraising amount is achieved the next school on this list will become the recipient of the fully funded 8 week I-CAN program.
All three Regenerative 2030 Projects are supported with a $5 pledge from the company for every traveller that books with World Expeditions. Travellers can also make a tax deductible donation to the Regenerative 2030 project of their choice and make a tax deductible micro-donation when booking their next adventure online.
“Regenerative Travel is about leaving a positive impact on the place you visit. Through the World Expeditions Foundation, we are working towards integrating regenerative projects into every one of our global operations by 2030 by harnessing the collective power of travellers,” says World Expeditions Travel Group CEO Sue Badyari.
The Australian owned global adventure travel company is known for big adventures with a small footprint, and has long led the sustainable tourism industry since 1975 when the company first launched human powered adventures in Nepal.
Today World Expeditions operates under their sustainable active outdoor thoughtful travel charter - adventures are 100% carbon offset with reputable partners, travel operates with an animal welfare travel policy, all Himalaya adventures commence with a 10 piece litter collection, all travellers experience a leave no trace travel policy and the company is committed to both a child safe travel policy and a mountain porter welfare policy.
