Stride forth and enjoy the 11th Richmond Walking and Book Festival (25th September – 4 October 2015) – a wonderful opportunity to stimulate both mind and body. Ramblers Worldwide Holidays – the experts in guided walking adventures across the globe – are participating in this special event held in the beautiful Georgian market town of Richmond, North Yorkshire, by providing a free Nordic walking session.
Nordic walking is a technique using specially designed walking poles, which propel one forward and is ideal for both gentle walks for people with health concerns and full work out walks. It is a great way to improve fitness, lose weight and tone the whole body.
This Nordic walking event will take place on Thursday, 1 October and will include an initial indoor explanation and demonstration of the techniques involved. This will be followed by an outdoor practical session with a walk along the scenic disused railway line from Richmond station to Easby Abbey and return – about 2.5 miles. Walking poles will be available free of charge for the event by Ramblers Worldwide Holidays.
The organiser of the festival, Trevor Thurlow says, “This special event is a great way to try out Nordic walking – a full body exercise which is easy on the joints and recognised by the NHS as being beneficial to all ages and fitness levels.”
The full programme is now available on the festival's own website at www.booksandboots.org, and is supplemented by a printed brochure available in many local outlets. Tickets are now available and events can be booked online, by post or in person via the Festival box office at the Castle Hill bookshop in Richmond.
