The Royal Automobile Club of Tasmania (RACT) is backing the state's tourism, meetings and incentives market with its purchase 12-months-ago of a number of tourism businesses across the state and the subsequent launch of RACT Destinations.
The company purchased Strahan Village and Gordon River Cruises on the west coast, the Cradle Mountain Hotel in the north-west and Freycinet Lodge on the east coast. It has also invested in the RACV/RACT Hobart Apartment Hotel.
Group Business Development Manager of RACT Destinations Sarah Thomas said the RACT was now ready to seriously engage with conference, meeting and event organisers.
“Tasmania is already highly-regarded from a national and international viewpoint (Tasmania was listed on Lonely Planet's must see list for 2015),” she said.
“The location of the RACT Destination' investments in regional Tasmania, right on the doorstep of beautiful wilderness areas, means we are very well placed to not only take advantage of Lonely Planet's recognition but also provide a unique conference, meeting or event venue.”
The RACT has launched a new brochure – Connect with Tasmania, Destination Meetings and Events – that highlight the three destinations, the venue itself and what to do when there.
Ms Thomas said while the properties were all were located in regional parts of the state, they were easy to access and all provided a different slant on a Tasmanian experience.
“The Cradle Mountain Hotel, for example, has state-of-the-art conference facilities and high quality accommodation in an alpine wilderness location,” she said.
“There are iconic walking tracks, canyoning, night-time wildlife spotting, photography tours and scenic flight opportunities.
“Freycinet on the east coast, uniquely located just inside the Freycinet National Park, is no less beautiful but offers a coastal experience where the wildlife, walks, food and wine and a variety of land and water-based activities all combine to provide an unfortgetable event.”
Ms Thomas said the Strahan Village and Gordon River Cruises on the west coast combined perfectly to allow visitors an opportunity to experience a truly unique wilderness area.
“Visitor numbers to the RACT's west coast property increased significantly in December 2014 and January 2015 compared to the same time 12-months-ago,” she said.
“The west coast is a strong drawcard for visitors to the state.
“Our cruise is a three-and-a-half-hour afternoon journey on Lady Jane Franklin II taking in Hells Gates, the Gordon River and viewing the World Heritage Area and local fish farms.”
Ms Thomas said RACT Destinations was committed to continuously enhancing the visitor experiences by investing in properties and the regional communities in which it operates.
