Airport Parking and Hotels

With Marathon season mid-stride and London successfully crossing the finish line, this leaves thousands of pavement pounders searching for their next challenge. Therefore, Airport Parking and Hotels (APH) has put together a guide highlighting the most popular and unique marathons around the globe which is available in the Know Before You Go section of the APH website at www.aph.com/marathons.

The research compares marathons taking place in 22 cities across 18 countries around the world including Australia, China, New Zealand, and USA highlighting the location, date and start time, entry fee and any stipulations for competitors all set to take place between April 2015 and April 2016.

Of the 22 marathons researched, those in Antarctica, Peru and South Africa were found to have the most expensive entry fees, with Antarctica's 'Antarctic Ice Marathon' costing £7,766 and Peru's 'Inca Trail Marathon' costing £2,000. However it is important for runner's to note that Peru's 'Inca Trail Challenge' and South Africa's 'The Big Five Marathon' both include flights, accommodation and selected meals as well as the marathon registration fee within their total cost.

In contrast, the three marathons taking place in Chile, France and New Zealand all offer the cheapest entry fees, with Chile's 'Patagonian International Marathon' costing £79 for an early-bird entry fee. Registration for New Zealand's 'ASB Auckland Marathon' costs £77 for international participants and only £60 entrance fee for those registering for the 'Marathon du Medoc'.

Furthermore, runners are also advised to check the required time limit of each individual marathon as these can vary significantly. Both the 'Outback Marathon' in Yulara, Australia and 'The Great Wall Marathon' in Tianjin, China have a maximum time limit of eight hours, whereas marathon runners taking part in the 'TCS Amsterdam Marathon' in Amsterdam and the 'Kilimanjaro Marathon' in Moshi, Tanzania only have a maximum of six hours to cross the finish line.

Marathon participants should also be aware that out of the 22 marathons researched, three European races including 'Marathon du Medoc' in Pauillac, France, 'Schneider Electric Marathon de Paris', France and 'Maratona di Roma' in Rome all require participants to provide a valid health certificate form on the day of the marathon. Those who do not provide a valid health certificate will be excluded from the marathon.
