Gap years overseas may be on pause but a working holiday in the Outback could be the adventure you didn't know you needed.
The famous inns and roadhouses of the Outback Loop, situated where Queensland meets South Australia, are urgently hiring enthusiastic hospitality workers for their upcoming winter tourism season.
Innamincka Hotel owner Jo Fort said her hotel needs energetic, capable people who would have a blast serving the intrepid and interesting travelers of the Outback.
“We need cheerful people with a sense of adventure who are ready to take on the full experience of living out here.
“The Outback is a place of extremes but it's also life changing.
“There's plenty of jobs out here if you're keen for new experiences.”
The winter jobs typically run April/May through October and most employers will assist with travel arrangements and housing to get quality workers to the Outback.
Jo's employees do more than just bartend: team members must be willing to help each other to get any job done, from housekeeping to helping guests with weather and road updates, assisting with kayaks or sharing the best fishing spots.
During the cooler months, the Outback Loop attracts a fantastic crowd who come to enjoy the region's natural wonders, quirky towns and iconic events like the Birdsville Races and the Big Red Bash.
Events manager Georgie McQuade has enjoyed a few stints working on the Loop, including winter seasons at the Innamincka Hotel and the Birdsville Hotel.
“Every person you greet is always happy, and why wouldn't they be?
“They are on holiday in one of Australia's most beautiful and remote locations, and they're about to get a cold beer in an iconic outback pub”.
Working in these remote areas can be challenging, but with the right attitude it is exceptionally rewarding.
“Working in the Outback is an experience that changed my life forever”, says Georgie.
“I worked hard but never stopped having fun.”
