Qantas today announced a major redevelopment of its Gold Coast airport terminal, featuring larger arrival and departure areas, additional baggage and check-in facilities and a substantial expansion of the Qantas Club.
Executive General Manager Sales and Marketing John Borghetti said Queensland's Gold Coast was one of the airline's most popular leisure destinations and the redevelopment of the terminal would enhance airport facilities for all customers.
"We will refurbish the entire terminal, with new dcor and air-conditioning throughout the public areas and more room in the arrival and departure areas," Mr Borghetti said.
"In addition, the Qantas Club lounge will be totally redesigned and it will almost treble in size, providing seating for 150 guests."
Other features of the redevelopment include:
two additional check-in counters and replacement of the existing counters; two new departure gates; an additional baggage reclaim carousel; and relocation of the bus stop and parking areas.
Mr Borghetti said the redevelopment highlighted the airline's long term and growing commitment to the Gold Coast as a major domestic leisure destination.
"Qantas will soon be operating more than 150 return services into the Gold Coast each week," he said.
"In addition to regular services from Sydney, Melbourne, Newcastle and Brisbane, services will be added as we take delivery of new Boeing 717 aircraft.
"Direct weekend services from Hobart commenced last weekend, and direct Adelaide services will be added in early July."
The Gold Coast terminal redevelopment project will commence within the next few months and is expected to be completed by the second half of 2003.
