Couples and families bored of the humdrum of unimaginative package holidays should look no further than Breckenridge, the mountain town of Colorado, for a 'Breck' from the ordinary this summer.  With myriad new adventurous activities landing on the mountain, a calendar jam-packed with inspiring arts events and tasty new restaurant and tavern openings, Breckenridge isn't for the average sun worshipper.

Positioned high in the mountains, Breckenridge boasts breath-taking views and some seriously diverse landscapes. The destination also proves that après entertainment shouldn't be confined to the winter ski resorts, since this laid-back town boasts some of the finest establishments to unwind and indulge in after a day of exploring. Breckenridge Tourism Office is therefore encouraging wanderlust explorers to reach new heights this summer with a trip to the mountains.

Find Your Next Passion With Breckenridge's New Adventurous Activities
Now, photography enthusiasts can marry their passion for pictures with an awe-inspiring adventure in the mountains. With the At Your Pace Biking Walking Tour & Photography workshop, participants will learn how to take eye-catching images and tell a visual story through creative composition – perfect for capturing the essence of Breckenridge to show family and friends back at home.  This four-hour workshop will encourage visitors to view Breckenridge's incredible mountain vistas from a whole new perspective and the blissful fresh air will work wonders on those who've spent too much time in the office in past months. For those with energy left to burn, unique on-mountain experience 'Epic Discovery' is another hot new arrival in Breckenridge this summer. Offering 'learn through play' challenging activities, such as zip lining, 4x4 exploring and climbing, the organisers promise to create lifelong memories that will help kids and big kids alike better understand their natural surroundings. Feast Your Eyes All Summer Long With Breck's Creative Arts Calendar
Far from the land of reserving a sun lounger and taking to the same bar each night, this summer sees a whole calendar of inspiring arts events in Breckenridge. Culture buffs' minds will be thoroughly entertained by the four-day 'WAVE: Light + Water + Sound' event (held 1 – 4 June), which is set to showcase the hottest happenings in interactive art, installations and music performances in the region. The hub of activity will be held at the Blue River Plaza, a beautifully landscaped place to sit back and enjoy an exhibition with a difference. For more information, visit www.breckcreate.org/wave/.

Of course, no summer in the US would be complete without Independence Day celebrations and Breckenridge has combined 4 July revelry with the arts. This year, visitors will be able to explore local street, pavement and graffiti arts over the buzzing weekend, along with outdoor murals, installations, workshops and pop-up arts – all of which guarantee to encourage the most tv-tied teenager or office-bound adult to pick up a paintbrush and get creative. For more information, visit www.gobreck.com/events/fourth-of-july.

Later in the summer, the Breckenridge International Festival of Arts (starting 11 August) will harness the town's inherent themes of environment and mountain culture with 10 days of performances, visual arts and screenings centred on the stunning surrounding landscape. Sip On Some Of Breck's Finest Brews and Spirits In Style
At Breckenridge Distillery, visitors have long been returning to taste its innovative use of fresh local fruits in flavoured spirits and liquers, as well as their grain to bottle batch whiskeys. This year, hungry mountain-trekkers can chase whiskey with charcuterie at the venue's newly-opened chef's tasting bar, which serves up the best cuts of meat alongside an extensive cocktail menu. Once visitors have tried the brisket with a Barrel Aged S'more cocktail – to name but a few delights on the menu – those with a truly insatiable appetite can take part in the venue's complimentary distillery tour, to learn the craft behind the creations. Just don't try taking one of the Kentucky-sourced barrels to make your own blends at home! For more information, visit www.breckenridgedistillery.com/restaurant/.

Founded in a Breck basement in 2008, Rocky Mountain Undergound is now a global favourite for outdoor apparel. Visitors to the 1,000 square foot showroom this year can indulge a little further than shopping and pull up a seat in the full-service tap house, which is now serving 14 brews from New Belgium, Broken Compass and others. A great way to extend the themes of a day spent in the stunning Breck landscape, the drinks list here has taken inspiration from mountain resorts all over the world. What is more, plans for summer 2017 include a dog-friendly backyard beer garden – for the ultimate après unwind!  For more information, visit www.rmuoutdoors.com/pages/rmu-shop-tavern-new-edit.
