KE is thrilled to announce the launch of its new Guide to Adventure along with 20 new itineraries for 2020, exploring some of the world's most incredible destinations. From a ground-breaking new reconnaissance trek in Nepal to stunning self-guided routes in Europe, KE continues to offer active and immersive adventures which enable travellers to fully experience the world as they explore.
Ashley Toft, CEO of KE, says “KE has always been known for pushing boundaries, and as we approach our 36th anniversary, we're introducing our largest and most diverse range of holidays yet. We're providing travellers with new, unique destinations and the chance to be part of some truly special adventures. We can't wait for them to join us.”
Frontier Trails – Moldova and the Ukraine
KE's answer to slow travel, this walking and cultural sightseeing holiday offers an immersive, in-depth look at a still little-visited part of the world whilst ensuring travellers can stay active. Unique highlights such as hiking the Lenin Trail, cycling the world's largest wine cellar and visiting Transnistria, a maverick breakaway republic, combine to form a fascinating journey through two countries like nowhere else.
Self-Guided Walking on Mallorca
For those who know there's far more to this fantastic island than just its beaches. This new self-guided walking holiday allows travellers to choose from a showcase of excellent day-walks in the Serra de Tramuntana whilst looking forward to unforgettable experiences such as staying in Lluc Monastery, high in the mountains, and spotting griffon vultures soar.
Self-Guided Cycling in Andalucía
This 1-week self-guided cycling holiday combines three of Andalucia's intoxicating must-see cities. An itinerary designed to awaken your senses will take travellers from Malaga and along the Costa del Sol, before heading to Granada, Cordoba and Seville. Rides will be a delightful mix of hillier, more strenuous rides of up to 65km and easier days of 30-40km to allow the chance to recover and enjoy the fantastic sightseeing opportunities along the way.
Finland Winter Activity Week
In the peaceful and pristine snow-covered landscapes of east-Finland, a true taste of winter awaits on this active adventure holiday. Go husky-sledding, try Nordic skiing, build an igloo and relax in a traditional Finnish sauna each night. Based for a week in a series of cosy remote candle lit wooden cabins with little light pollution, travellers will be well placed to look for the northern lights illuminating the night sky.
Also new: Finland Wilderness Snowshoe Adventure
Snowshoeing in the Dolomites
Centre-based in the beautiful ski resort town of Cortina, this alternative winter adventure takes travellers on an in-depth guided exploration of the Italian Dolomites. Snowshoeing allows us to access quiet trails with stunning views of towering rock formations and discover little-trodden routes in the shadow of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo.
North Norway, Aurora Borealis – Hike and Sail
Explore the fjords, mountains and coastlines of northern Norway based on a beautiful schooner sailing ship. With a maximum of 33 passengers this small vessel can access remote fjords and small hamlets and offers a genuine small-group cruise experience. Choose from short and long walk options for a complete immersion in this stunning environment, and head there in early spring to be in with the best chance of seeing the Aurora Borealis.
Croatian Island Hopping Family Holiday
This island-hopping adventure in the sun offers families with children aged 8 and above the chance to explore Croatia's many beautiful highlights. Explore hidden coves and inlets by kayak or SUP and enjoy easy coastal walks – with plenty of stops for ice-creams. Based in a peaceful location away from the main crowds on the island of Korcula, parents and kids alike will be able to relax whilst engaging in a range of endlessly fun activities.
Makalu to Mera Reconnaissance Trek
A brand new, pioneering trek, unique to KE, which will explore a part of Nepal where no one has trekked before. Travellers can expect to see rare views of Makalu, Kanchenjunga and the very impressive Chamlang (7319m). Reaching a max altitude of 5415m, this challenging trip is an adventure into the unknown ideal for experienced Himalayan trekkers.
Kang Yatse 2 and the Lhato Valley
With Stok Kangri closed for 2020, KE are offering an alternative 6250m peak in the Ladakh area of India, ideal for travellers looking to summit their first 6000er and a perfect introduction to Himalayan climbing. KE has always worked hard with our agent in this area to ensure our travellers leave no trace, and will continue to do so as we diversify our range.
Peaks and Passes of the Nubra Valley
KE have also created a brand new itinerary to explore Ladakh's little-visited northern region. North of Leh, beautiful trekking in the remote Nubra Valley awaits, with isolated villages, rugged gorges, spectacular sand-dune landscapes and the opportunity to summit two non-technical high peaks. Cut off from the outside world by high passes, this is a unique and very special part of the Indian Himalaya and this new trek and climb combination aims to make the most of it.
Winter Hokkaido: Japan's Frozen North
Experience the wilderness of Japan's frozen north on this active winter holiday. Hokkaido during winter is mysterious, magical, and a world apart from the rest of Japan. Spot an array of rare wildlife, from majestic Steller's sea eagles to stunning red foxes, explore on drift ice around the Shiretoko Peninsula, and discover the Ainu culture, an ancient way of life still celebrated on Japan's wildest island.
Tibet, Mount Kailash and the Saga Dawa Festival
For 2020 KE is returning to Mount Kailish, offering travellers once again the opportunity to take part in the Saga Dawa festival and make the pilgrimage around this famous snow-capped, revered peak. The epic journey to reach it includes a flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa and then a drive across the Tibetan plateau, stopping off to visit the spectacular north side of Everest. This is a truly unique and unforgettable travel experience.
Nepal Middle Hills Trek – From the Arun River to the Dudh Kosi
In the heart of Nepal lies the beautiful and unspoiled 'Middle Hills' region, a destination rarely visited by trekking groups. Starting out from the airstrip at Tumlingtar, this exciting trekking holiday, which we are running as a reconnaissance for the first departure in spring 2020, will take travellers on a linear journey amongst rugged ridge and valley scenery with far-reaching views.
Dolpo to Mugu Reconnaissance Trek in Nepal
This route from Dolpo to Mugu is one of the great trekking challenges of west Nepal and has been on our radar for many years. KE is delighted to now be in a position to set this up as a reconnaissance trek for any committed Nepal aficionados. This is really remote, almost off the map, trekking, with scenery second to none and magnificent views from the high passes. A unique and challenging trekking adventure for experienced Himalayan travellers.
NEW IN NORTH AND SOUTH AMERICA
Quebec Winter Adventure
Snowmobiling, snowshoeing, dogsledding and ice-fishing make for the perfect winter adventure, and all are included on this amazing value one week holiday in the wintery fjords and boreal forest of Quebec. Woodstove-heated chalets ensure a warm welcome at the end of each day, stunningly located on the slopes of the Monts Valin range with gorgeous views of the Sageunay Fjord.
Cycle Argentina and Chile
This cycling itinerary is a journey on the path less trodden through northern Patagonia, taking in some of the most remote and beautiful parts of the Andean lake district. Going beyond the guidebooks, 10 days of biking reveals this region's many incredible treasures. Amongst a backdrop of snow-capped volcanoes and dazzling lakes, cyclists will ride spectacular trails, cross high passes and journey through timeless towns and villages.
Eclipse 2020 – Patagonia and Argentina
In December 2020 a solar eclipse will grace the skies of Argentina and this, combined with the beauty of Patagonia, guarantees a unique holiday of a lifetime. KE have taken some of the most breath-taking landscapes on the planet including the mountains and glaciers of Patagonia, plus the lakes of Argentina, and combined them into one incredible itinerary. This very special one off departure includes hikes along lovely trails, walking tours on foot, the perfect amount of cultural sightseeing and unique accommodation.
NEW IN AFRICA
Kilimanjaro Northern Route Traverse and Circuit
Summit Kilimanjaro (5895m) via the remote Northern Circuit, the route taken by the Comic Relief 2019 team. With 9 days of trekking on the mountain, it's longer than other routes, but travellers will find this means the Northern Circuit offers excellent acclimatisation with much quieter campsites and paths to enjoy.
Walking the Drakensburg and the Wild Coast of South Africa
Another unique to KE itinerary, this excellent walking holiday combines an outstanding series of day walks in the Drakensburg and along the Wild Coast, showcasing some of the finest scenery in South Africa. Take a sunset walk on Brandwag Rock, explore the Tugela Gorge, see the famous Amphitheatre and Cathedral Peak, and discover the beauty of coastal trails on the Wild Coast.
Trek Malawi's Mt Mulanje and Safari
Spend 5 days on the Mulanje massif and trek to the summit, before heading to Liwonde National Park and the beautiful Lake Malawi. Often overlooked as a safari destination, African Parks has recently completed an epic conversation project in Malawi, reintroducing cheetahs and lions, removing snares and relocating elephants to the north to improve human-wildlife conflicts. This means KE's new itinerary offers the perfect combination of walks and wildlife, ideal for anyone who wants to experience an African safari but gets a kick out of trekking too.
