Utah's winter sports are among the most recognized in the world. From rustic Alta, to the more modern setting of Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort, Utah is known for having the Greatest Snow on Earth(TM). While skiers and snowboarders are likely to vouch for this catchy phrase, snow sports aren't the only ticket in town. Salt Lake is also home to five professional sports teams. The Utah Jazz (NBA Basketball), Utah Grizzlies (AHL Hockey), Salt Lake Stingers (AAA Baseball), Utah Blitzz (D3 Pro Soccer), and Utah Warriors (Indoor Football) offer fans a great professional sports experience.
Utah Jazz Currently the oldest active professional team in Salt Lake, the Jazz ended the 2002-2003 season seeded seventh in the Western Conference, making the playoffs for the twentieth consecutive season. However, with the 2003 retirement of John Stockton and the departure of Karl Malone, the face of the Jazz has changed considerably. A group of young, athletic players looks to energize the franchise when the 2003-2004 season tips off in October. The Jazz call the Delta Center home through April. Tickets range from $10-$89.50 and can be purchased by calling (801)325-SEAT. For media relations, contact Kim Turner at (801)325-2500.
Utah Grizzlies If ice hockey is on your list of favorite spectator sports, Salt Lake proudly claims the Utah Grizzlies. In 2003, the Grizz (as they are referred to by locals) will begin their tenth season in Salt Lake. The Grizzlies make their home in the E-Center October through April. Tickets range from $15-$36.50 and can be purchased by calling (801)988-PUCK. For media relations, contact Bob Hoffman at (801)988-8000.
Salt Lake Stingers If the smell of sizzling hot dogs and the sound of cracking bats are on your summer wish list, check out our summer baseball professionals, the Salt Lake Stingers. The Stingers recently completed their third year of affiliation with the Anaheim Angels. They play home games at Franklin Covey Field, with the Rocky Mountains towering above the outfield wall--one of the most picturesque settings in professional sports. The Stingers take the field from April through September. Tickets range from $6-$8 and can be purchased by calling (801)485-3800. For media relations, contact Brad Tammen at (801)485-3800.
Utah Blitzz The Utah Blitzz call Salt Lake home from April through September and just completed their third consecutive season as Western Conference Champions. The Blitzz play in the D3 Pro League of the United Soccer Leagues and play all home games at Rice-Eccles Stadium on the campus of the University of Utah. For ticket information, contact the Blitzz at (801)401-8000.
Utah Warriors The Utah Warriors just completed their first year of affiliation with the National Indoor Football League (NIFL), advancing all the way to the Indoor Bowl, the championship game for the NIFL. The team, composed of many former college standouts, finished second to Ohio Valley, completing an outstanding first season. With an emphasis placed on offense, the NIFL offers a fast-paced, high-energy game played on a field roughly half the size of a standard football field. The Warriors entertain fans at the E-Center from March through July. For ticket information, contact the Warriors at (801)988-8888.
