I think we can all agree that the food offered on airlines in the past decade has distinctly improved. Gone are the days of 'Mystery Meat' style stews with a handful of peas thrown in for colour (and might I just add - good riddance!). Since 1997 leading Rockpool chef, Neil Perry has worked with the nation's national carrier to design and deliver award winning food and wine featuring unique Australian producers. 

Pepe Saya Butter Company and the filmmakers at Food Wine Dine have teamed up with Qantas epiQure in 2015, to bring you a series of short films telling the stories of some of the people and produce featured on the Qantas inflight menu.

Butter maker Pepe Saya and filmmaker Rob Locke will be on the road filming during February, stopping at:
Oakridge Wines in Victoria
Cape Grim Beef in Tasmania
Olsson's Salt in South Australia
And of course, Pepe Saya Butter Company in New South Wales
A couple weeks ago they visited Fraser Isle Spanner Crab in Queensland where they met producer Les Apps and tasted some of his utterly delicious, fresh-as-it-comes crab meat on Fraser Island.  Pepe gets to have all the fun!

On 18 March, Pepe and Qantas epiQure will co-host a new event titled Producer to Plane. The event will celebrate the launch of Qantas' new inflight menu and be held at Qantas' world class Centre of Service Excellence. Qantas epiQure members will experience a custom Rockpool designed menu, featuring five of our top Australian producers.

People say there is no 'Australian cuisine', and that may well be true, but the variety, quality and freshness of our produce is something we can all enjoy and be proud of. We are so fortunate to have spectacular producers, who, through their passion, innovation and dedication to excellence, are creating a name for Australia as home to some of the world's best food and wine.
