Set in the backdrop of the beautiful Cumbrian hills and mountains, The Lakes Distillery is in an area of unimaginable beauty next to Bassenthwaite Lake. It is the perfect home for the first-ever Lakes Distillery which will open to the public in December 2014.
Nestled under the shadows of Skiddaw, the distillery's idyllic site on a former Victorian model farm is taking shape with its delightful hand-made gates get ready to open up and welcome tourists from all over the world. The listed building is nearing completion and the beautiful copper stills that will nurture the Lakes Malt, gin and vodka are now in situ.
Our award winning team will show you the tools of our trade (obviously without spilling too many of our secrets!), exploring what makes our spirits unique and how we use local resources to ensure that our products are 100% Cumbrian. You'll see our working distillery, the stills where the magic happens and the warehouse where all our barrels gently rest as they slowly mature the quality spirits within.
You'll also be amongst the first to see the distillery's bistro and bar where nationally renowned chef and restaurateur Terry Laybourne has created a vibrant, causal eatery serving carefully prepared food to locals and visitors alike.
The bistro and bar will be housed in the heart of the distillery with outside heated seating within the distillery's courtyard making a total of 130 seats inside and out. The menu will be constantly evolving to reflect the seasons and the local produce available.
