Journalists with a confirmed commissiion from a high-end national title are invited on a group press trip, with a food and wine focus, to Grand Hotel Kronenhof, Pontresina (www.kronenhof.com) from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th July 2013.  

In the mid-19th century, Grand Hotel Kronenhof, Pontresina started life as a humble B&B, the Rossli Guesthouse, run by Lorenz Gredig, as an aside to his main business in the wine trade.  For Lorenz had a herd of horses that he used to transport wine over the Bernina Pass that he then sold from his wine shop in the cellar of the B&B.

Over 150 years' later, Grand Hotel Kronenhof is recognised as the Best Hotel in Switzerland according to TripAdvisor® and has received a TripAdvisor® Certificate of Excellence for the last three years in a row, as well as the HolidayCheck Award 2010 to 2013 (most popular hotel in Switzerland, four years in a row), and a place in a list of the top ten best holiday hotels in Switzerland compiled by renowned Swiss newspaper SonntagsZeitung and in a list of the top ten most welcoming luxury hotels in the country put together by Switzerland Tourism.

The press group will walk the route taken by Lorenz's horses across the Bernina Pass and visit the historic STRATA wine cellars in the Valtellina region for a wine tasting, before heading back to enjoy a gourmet dinner in Grand Hotel Kronenhof's one Michelin star Kronenstubli restaurant, with Chef Bernd Schützelhofer joining the group for coffee.

The following day, the group will have a chance to experience the traditional art of mountain cheese making in an authentic mountain hut, before having time at leisure to enjoy all the impressive facilities that Grand Hotel Kronenhof has to offer, including what has been called "the best Alpine spa".
