Did you know that Algarve is one the very few popular places in Europe that bear an Arabic name, thought to come from Phoenecian and Moorish influences earlier in the history of the region. The names which has been westernised over time derives from Al Gharb, simply meaning the west.                                             

Quinta Bonita a family-run luxury boutique hotel located high on the Matos Morenos hillside with panoramic Algarve ocean views, would like to invite you to experience another side to the Algarve full of surprising discoveries away from the hustle and bustle of the tourist resorts. The press trip will be two or three nights staying at Quinta Bonita in September or October at a date to suit you (subject to availability). There are over 2,800 restaurant in the Algarve but Quinta Bonita's owners have a selection of local favourites to recommend including, the best west coast cliff top seafood restaurant, where to eat wild boar on a Sunday afternoon in the Monchique Mountains and where to get the best cataplana (a regional favourite combining; fish, seafood, chorico and vegetables in a special copper saucepan)

Currently, Algarve winemakers produce around 80 different grape varieties. There are four main wine producing regions in the Algarve, classified as DOCs – Denominação de Origem Controlado.  These regions are Tavira, Lagoa, Lagos and Portimão. The Quinta itself has vineyards on its land and visits can be arranged to local vineyards to try the wine.

There is over 200km of coastline on the Algarve. Quinta Bonita owners Chantelle and Fraser have compiled their own selection of walking notes for beautiful local walks along the cliff-side and beach side. The hotel can also arrange boat trips to explore the coast and caves

There is an average of 3,000 hours of sunshine per year. Quinta Bonita has 10,000 square metres of spectacular gardens, including a large heated swimming pool, cobbled pathways, ponds and fountains

Sagres situated in the west and southernmost point of the Algarve is where ships would not only launch, but return with exotic bounties of herbs, spices, and treasures from around the globe. Just 30 minutes from Quinta Bonita, guests can take in the dramatic scenery, watch or take part in surfing, walk along the fine beaches and enjoy the simple cafes

Medronho is a local spirit distilled from the strawberry-like fruits of the arbutus and is one of the many local products that Quinta Bonita can introduce you to as well as highlighting local producers including cheesemakers, bakers worth visiting.
