Press trip invitation: Broads business expands to offer a range of exciting new accommodation and activities including pet stays, Escape Pods, hot tubs and trips on a classic 1930s Gentleman's launch!
Waveney River Centre is a 5-star park on the Norfolk/Suffolk border, situated in an area of outstanding natural beauty, with the Broads and a nature reserve on its doorstep only 22 miles from Norwich.
The area is a haven for walkers and birdwatchers. A quick trip across the river on the park's own Ternpike ferry brings you to the Angles Way and the Carlton Marshes nature reserve. Run by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust, this is a wildlife haven of grazing marsh, fen meadow and peat pool - the Broads in miniature and a perfect place for a walk. It's also home to marsh harriers, red kites, barn owls, kingfishers, wildfowl, otters, numerous butterflies and dragonflies and lots more.
Residents (and non-residents) can also get out onto the water to try canoeing, fishing and cycling - and day cruisers can be hired from the marina. Canadian Canoes are available to hire from only £35 a day!
For a taste of real luxury, a trip on the skippered Betsie Jane, a classic 1930s Gentleman's launch is perfect. Betsie Jane takes up to 12 passengers for an exclusive tour of the Broads.
The park is highly committed to preserving the environment for visitors to enjoy and holds a David Bellamy Gold Conservation Award.
Glamping pods, handcrafted by Broads boatbuilders
Measuring 14ft x 10ft including a decked porch, Waveney River Centre's luxury 'Escape' pods are ideal for short breaks and holidays all year round, with their double glazed doors and window and electric heater. The pods are wrapped in foil-backed multi-layer insulation, to help keep them warm in winter and cool in summer.
Inside, the pods feature a full size double bed above two single beds, a Freeview TV, LED lights, a double socket and loads of storage space. The pods are an extremely short walk from 5 star shower and wash up facilities.
Luxury lodges
The luxury 2 and 3 bedroom lodges and penthouses are spacious and exceptionally well appointed. They are very comfortable too, furnished to a high standard, with digital TV and DVD players, dishwasher and 2 bath/shower rooms. And all have gorgeous views across the marshes.
The owner's, James and Ruth Knight, have cleverly listened to their customers and made sure there's a lodge to suit all needs.
Utilities, linen and towels are included as standard as is free Wifi, ferry pass and use of the on-site heated swimming pool. Every lodge has its own bird feeder outside so guests can relax and enjoy the birds in comfort.
Luxury lodges with hot tubs – for a luxurious, relaxing break
Two lodges have hot tubs. What better way to relax than dipping into a luxuriously warm, private hot tub? You can even soak up a fabulous view across the marshes at the same time.
Luxury lodges for dog owners
Five of the lodges are 'pet friendly' welcoming the other member of the family for just £35 per pet. All details have been thought of, with doggy bowls, towels, large floor mat, dog walking maps and bins provided.
Camping and Caravanning available too
A small, family orientated touring and camping area is available, with room for 17 touring caravans and up to 35 tents. It occupies an idyllic south-facing location overlooking the marina and river, with leisure centre, showers, toilets and wash up area all immediately adjacent. All pitches are on level ground and feature electric hook-up and wildlife friendly planting.
Touring caravan pitches with electricity are located on high well-drained ground with superb views. Some pitches have water, grey waste and TV connection too. WiFi service is also available if required.
Lots for the kids to do
The park has an indoor swimming pool, with café and along with numerous outdoor activities, there's plenty for kids to do.
The children's play area features a climbing frame with swings, an adventure play tower with slide, swings and monkey bars, plus a 10-stage balance trail including Burma bridge, balance beam and shimmy ropes. The kids will also love Eddie's (the park's mascot) secret garden, where they can play hide and seek in willow huts and climb on the oak-osaur. There's a treasure trail, plus storytelling, RSPB and Suffolk Wildlife Trust events in the summer too.
Newly refurbished pub
The Waveney Inn has re-opened following a complete refurbishment. The new air-conditioned bar and restaurant includes a huge deck overlooking the marshes, and the delicious menu features locally sourced, home-cooked food and Adnams ales.
The park also has its own shop for everyday provisions.
Whether you're looking for a romantic short break, family holiday or just the chance to get away from it all, Waveney River Centre is the ideal destination.
