Press Invitation: National Poetry Day at The Alfred Tennyson

The Alfred Tennyson

28th September 2017, 7pm-9.30pm

Following its recent refurbishment, Cubitt House's Belgravia outpost The Alfred Tennyson, is launching a new craft series. In honour of its namesake Poet Laureate who lived nearby, the inaugural craft event at The Alfred Tennyson will be a poetry evening, taking place on National Poetry Day, Thursday 28th September 2017.

The evening will be a charming and entertaining combination of warm hospitality, quality dining and cultural inspiration. A former recipient of the Christopher Tower poetry prize, poet Eley Williams will be reading a selection of her amusing contemporary poems between each course throughout the evening. Perfect for those who enjoy light-hearted entertainment alongside delicious food, and with an appreciation for the art of poetry.

Guests will enjoy a drink on arrival, followed by a 3-course meal; choose from dishes such as Lyme Bay market fish and Castlemead chicken with salt-baked celeriac, violet artichokes and almond jus, that celebrate the provenance and heritage of Cubitt House's sustainably-sourced ingredients. The event will be hosted in The Alfred Tennyson's newly reopened First Floor Dining Room, with its high ceilings and wooden floorboards that retain the historic drawing room feel of the traditional Belgravia town house, much like those that Tennyson himself frequented.

Later events in the craft series will include a festive wreath-making workshop in late November, and a special Valentine's variation in early February.
