Dare we say it, Summer is here! Where better to spend a lazy summer afternoon in the UK than one of the country’s best beer gardens?
The Ebrington Arms near Chipping Campden in Gloucestershire and The Killingworth Castle near Woodstock in Oxfordshire both offer spacious beer gardens, which boast lush grass, enchanting views & the fresh air of The Cotswolds. Perfect for a sunny day out or a refreshing stop off after a walk in the stunning local countryside, both venues have award-winning ales on tap, alfresco dining, lawn games and the best food for miles around.
Please see each venue’s details below:
The Ebrington Arms, near Chipping Campden, features a spacious, south-facing garden which gets the sun all day. Owners, Claire & Jim, have spent years planting up the garden and it's now a lovely place to sit, with wooden furniture and countryside views.
Sheltered by a lovely old cotswold stone wall, the garden also has a wooden Wendy house hidden under a tree for kids to explore. There are parasols for those who need the shade and dogs are welcome, as long as they are on leads, and water happily provided for them.
The garden can seat over 40 people - more furniture has been ordered to answer a growing demand for customers to eat outside. Diners inside can also enjoy the garden as the patio doors open onto the space and many locals also bring their picnic blankets to sit on in busy days.
There’s often fun activities going on too; Ebrington Arms holds a popular garden party after the village fete, and there are regular games of boules. This is coming up on 13th July 2013.
The pub brew their own beer, make all of the food on site and they also grow all their own herbs in the garden for use in the kitchen. There are fig and apple trees dotted about too making for a relaxed and natural space to while away an afternoon.
The Killingworth Castle in Wootton, near Woodstock in Oxfordshire has a brand spanking new garden that has delighted those in the surrounding area.
The whole venue was in serious neglect and the garden was totally overgrown before the new owners took over in December 2012. Having refurbished the inside, new owners, Jim & Claire, turned their attention to the garden which hadn’t previously been used. Dding some serious TLC; re-turfing the lawn, adding of lots of greenery and plants and installing new Cotswold stone walling and some significant landscaping, the garden is a now relaxing and spacious area for locals and visitors alike.
New furniture for 40 diners has been delivered, paving is now complete and the garden opened on Saturday 29th June.
The Killlingworth Castle garden also features a traditional Aunt Sally. The pub's team is up and running and have had matches most weekends in recent weeks. New players are more than welcome and, and although the pub team haven't won any matches yet (!), the games are all well attended and lively.
Please note that The Killingworth Castle's garden has recently opened, on Saturday 29th June and journalists are invited to pay a visit, try the food and taste the owners' newly brewed Yubby Bitter.
