With snow already falling in the Alps it looks to be a white winter for Austria. Nestled in the beautiful alpine resort of Lech, The Post Lech is the perfect luxury retreat from which to make the most of this snowy wonderland. Lech has magnificent downhill skiing as well as other snow pursuits including hiking through snow covered alpine landscapes, cross country skiing, ice skating, curling, sleighing and snow shoeing to name but a few.
The world renowned Arlberg Ski area has 340km of downhill skiing, with 248 marked pistes, served by a total of 97 ski lifts and 200km of deep snow off-piste slopes located right on The Post Lech's doorstep. Lech Zürs is known around the globe as a deep powder snow mecca and the Snowpark Lech is the perfect alternative in this freeride paradise. A single ski pass opens up the entire Arlberg ski area for your discovery, making this location perfect for snow lovers new and old alike.
Somewhat of an institution, The Post is the Grande Dame of Lech. As its name suggests, the hotel was originally a collecting point for the imperial and royal mail of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, then a farmhouse, before being transformed into a luxury hotel. The hotel houses 46 generously appointed rooms and suites that are either traditional and rustic or innovative and modern in design. Every room is individual and decorated with great attention to detail alongside state-of-the-art technology. There is also a stunning private Alpine chalet, Chalet Saege, which sleeps up to 8 and guests can use the facilities of the hotel.
After a busy day on the mountain, The Post Lech is the perfect place to relax with afternoon tea by the roaring fire, or for an après ski tipple in the Bemelmans Bar or you could simply relax in the generous spa. The spa is an oasis of calm and tranquillity with treatments from facials to massages, body wraps to jet peels, and the spa uses the exclusive products of Cellap Laboratoire from Switzerland and Alpienne methods.
Heading into it's third winter season, the renovated main dining room, “Postblick”-Restaurant, with panoramic views of Lech, continues to be a hub of fine dining in Lech and beyond. The restaurant goes from strength-to-strength with innovative 34-year old Tyrolian David Wagger taking the helm. Chef Wagger's signature Austrian dishes with a modern twist have garnered him a new rating of 95 Faltstaff points (the equivalent of a Michelin star rating level), and he will also develop a special Gala Christmas Menu for this Winter Season. The hotel has also received a special commendation from world renowned publication The Wine Spectator – where The Post Lech has won 'The Best of Award of Excellence 2019' honouring The Post Stuben for having an exceptional wine list and deep commitment to wine.
Also within the hotel is the traditional hunting lodge-style “Jägerstube”, where you can also enjoy the exclusive fine dining tasting menu and creative cuisine of Chef David Wagger and The Emo Stube which sees guests enjoy the socialable fondue, as well as new additions to the menu with other speciality dishes of fresh water river fish, to Tomahawk steaks.
Kutscherstube, the “inn” of the hotel serves Austrian culinary delights, where hotel guests can also enjoy their half-board option in a charming setting. There is also a bar, which is named after the US writer Ludwig Bemelmans, who was a loyal regular guest until the late fifties. The bar staff will delight you with fine spirits, exquisite cocktails or selected wines and champagne, perfect from après ski to after dinner drinks.
Further talent and expertise under the management of Head Sommelier is Karl Mandel and Daniel Kriel as F&B Manager who will oversee the Front of house team in a further commitment to providing a superb dining experience at the hotel.
The Post Lech is a true heritage hotel, which is why the hotel has been a member of Relais & Châteaux for more than 40 years. Opening this winter from 29 November 2019 to the 18 April 2020, The Post Lech is the perfect winter getaway destination with beautiful accommodation, incredible cuisine and an award-winning spa.
