The twice Michelin starred Restaurant Vila Joya in the Algarve region of Portugal has once again won a prestigious place among The World's 50 Best Restaurants. As of today, the restaurant, headed by world-renowned Chef Dieter Koschina, is considered to be number 22 in the world. The ranking was announced at the historicGuildhall in London.
This award once again affirms Portugal's place as one of the world's premier locations for internationally recognized haute cuisine. The World's 50 Best Restaurants is one of the most selective and comprehensive of culinary lists, and is a selection of only the 50 most highly regarded restaurants. The list is recognized worldwide for its well-researched and discerning selection.
The award, therefore, strongly contributes to Portugal's status as a gastronomic destination, encouraging tourism and bringing capital into the country. Vila Joya is proud to contribute to the modernisation of Portugal's national gastronomy and the country's culinary prestige.
Over 900 culinary opinion formers, known as The World's Best 50 Restaurants Academy, compile The World's Best 50 Restaurants, created by British magazine Restaurant and sponsored by S. Pellegrino & Acqua Panna. Among these opinion formers are critics, journalists, chefs, restaurateurs and renowned food critics from 26 regions around the world. They are chosen to impart the fairest possible overall view of gastronomy. During deliberation, the academy does not allow outside influence and does not accept applications from restaurants to be on the list. Each member gives his or her opinion based on their best dining experiences within the past 18 months.
Restaurant Vila Joya has been included in The World's Best 50 Restaurants since 2012, when they achieved the 45th position. In 2013, the restaurant climbed 8 places to reach number 37.
The restaurant's home, Vila Joya, has itself been recognized as one of the world's top resorts, receiving the prize of World's Leading Boutique Resort at the World Travel Awards for the past seven consecutive years. The seafront property's atmosphere is that of a chic private home. It's an experience of the senses, offering 12,000 bottles of the world's best wine from its extravagant wine cellar, visually-pleasing individually furnished rooms, sensational massages, scrubs, and wraps at its Joy Jung Spa, access to 10 of Europe's top golf courses, and, of course, the artistic cuisine of Chef Koschina at Restaurant Vila Joya.
