Portugal Beats Scotland In Battle To Golfers' Hearts

Ifyougolf.com

Portugal has been voted the worlds top golfing holiday spot, leaving Scotland supposedly the home of golf trailing in its wake, in an extensive survey of over 20,000 golf lovers by ifyougolf.com, the UKs leading golf holidays website.

Portuguese courses snatched the top five spots in the survey to find golfers favourite holiday course, ahead of Scottish legends such as The Kings Course, Gleneagles, the Ailsa Course, Turnberry and the Carnoustie Championship Course, and Spanish pretender Valderrama. Top of the leader board was Portugals Penha Longa Atlantic Golf Course in Lisbon.

Portugals most-admired courses after Penha Longa were Palmares, Penina Championship, Vilamoura Old Course and San Lorenzo. The best-performing Scottish courses were The Kings Course at Gleneagles (17), The Ailsa Course at Turnberry (21) and the Carnoustie Championship Course (25).

Golfers voting for Penha Longa were attracted by its championship qualities (it has twice been host to the Portuguese Open), the superb condition in which it is maintained, the beautiful panoramic views over the Sintra mountain range and the fantastic service offered by the five-star Caesar Park Penha Longa resort, which houses the course.

Tom Corcoran, ifyougolfs brand manager commented: Portugal is a clear favourite with British golfers because of its plethora of high-quality courses and hotels, the short flying time and of course the countrys enticing climate. The result demonstrates that Portugal is winning over golfers and gaining a clear edge over traditional favourites in Spain or the UK.

The massive response to the survey proves that when it comes to golfing holidays, Brits know what they like and are passionate about the quality of the courses they play.
