Breathtaking live stunts are performed in Warner Bros. Movie World's Police Academy Stunt Show - a non-stop action expose' featuring the zany incompetent Police Academy team, at their very best, or worst!
Enter a huge amphitheatre where the all-daring, all-live stunt show, based on the successful Police Academy movie series, occurs. It's non-stop, laugh a minute action and the audience is part of it!
Since Warner Bros. Movie World opened in June 1991, stunt actors in the show have travelled more than 1,800 kilometres in more than 180,000 highfalls! More than 100,000 explosions have been staged and the fireball finale has exploded over 10,000 times. The cast have performed more than a million handbrake slides and a million donuts! The cast and crew recently celebrated the 10,000th performance of the internationally recognised show.
The laughs begin as soon as guests enter the stadium with Purvis the whistle blowing traffic director - guests should beware, they may be his next target! Whether he is mimicking audience members, stealing their cameras, or doing the moonwalk, Purvis has guests in hysterics. In fact, he has emerged as one of the theme park's most popular characters!
Guests first meet Proctor who jumps to attention when Captain Harris strides into the amphitheatre, brandishing his baton. The militant Captain Harris has a mission - to become 'numero uno' - the Commandant. He's had a tip-off that the Silk Stocking Gang has escaped from prison and will be trying to rob the Burbank Payroll Building, so it's 'recruitment time'.
Four 'recruits' are chosen from the audience and, undoubtedly, Captain Harris will always uncover a joker!
The action and comedy escalates with the arrival of Commandant Lassard and his team of bumbling, incompetent cadets: Johnson, Smith, Knopinski and Kirby.
Catastrophe results with the intervention of the cadets providing non-stop laughs and gasps. Knopinski is dragged up the flag pole, cars crash and explode, cadets fall from high buildings, the Commandant is caught with his pants down and a helicopter explodes.
Despite all their botched attempts, justice triumphs and the motto 'to serve and to protect' is upheld by the cadets.
All roles in the show are interchangeable with actors trained to perform a minimum of three roles each. Stunt performers receive individualised special training.
The set is based on the Police Academy movies with the Police Academy building an exact replica of the movie set. Explosions, fireballs and gun shots are all carefully orchestrated from the Police Academy Control Room.
Not everyone escapes unscathed however - one of the Silk Stocking gang makes a spectacular exit from the Payroll Building in flames, although he is protected by a leather jacket over a Nomex fireproof jacket, balaclava and gloves.
An experienced Stunt Co-ordinator designs and supervises the breathtaking stunts pivotal to the Police Academy Stunt Show. Safety precautions are of the utmost importance - the pyrotechnics and other special effects are all double checked and all vehicles warmed up beforehand.
The Police Academy Stunt Show has been a primary attraction at the park since opening.
