Enjoy contemporary street art with a difference as Philadelphia celebrates its Mural Arts Programme 25th Anniversary Celebration. Originally created as part of the citys anti-graffiti network, the programmes aim was to convert destructive social behaviour into constructive mural paintings. Today the city is decorated with over 2,800 murals and works of public art.
The scheme has developed into Philadelphias leading non profit programme using art as a vehicle to encourage social change by transforming the neighbourhoods through collaborated activity. From now until October 2009, the celebrations include birthday parties, special exhibits, tours and a city-wide mural project. Details can be found on www.muralarts.org.
